in case anyone was wondering, blue moons occur when a full moon happens to be the second one in a given month.

The moon doesn't turn blue, just fyi. Its just unlikely that we get 2 full moons in a single calender month.

Sacrificing virgins to the heathen gods of course. Their blood will restore the glorious silver hue of our beloved moon!

A blue moon is simply the second full moon in a month, allowed because a lunar month is 28 days, when all but one of our months are longer. It is rare, but not exactly eventful.

Unless you happen to be looking at the moon through the tinted portion of your car windscreen, in which case I imagine you could get quite excitable.
