I always tell my daughter that it is wrong to buy bootleg DVD's because it takes jobs away from hard working people that work in production. But her mom buys they anyway and they are all over the place; taco stand, IHOP, the market, the swapmeet. I even saw them selling Spiderman 3 at the swap meet the other day and it was clear. Plus I paid $34 at the theatre the other day for 2 tickets. With the inflating cost of going to the theatre, dealing with insentive people at the theatre and the quality of and accessability the bootlegs maybe it can be ok.

Legally, it is definitely "bad" to buy pirated movies/dvds. Business wise, it is "bad" for the people who work making the movies/dvds. I guess in defense of the movie people, they work hard, expect a profit, but most movies are a flop and slightly better than a flop. Some of the best movies I've ever seen are rated so low they didn't turn a profit. Some of the hit movies I've seen are "crummy" and felt the movie should not have been released. Where does that leave you? Go with your conscience. If you decide not to buy pirated movies/dvds, good for you. Shop around and you can usually find them for a lower price. As for seeing the movie, wait until it has been out and the price will be lower.

Technically, it is stealing. So, I suppose it depends on your definition of "that bad".
