This question is to anyone who listens or knows about Ska. :) I was wondering what the checkered pattern that is often associated with ska, represents? Does it represent when 2 tone music first came out? or something else? Your answers are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I think it has something to do with The Specials' record label Two Tone Records and that the "mascot" had that suit on with the black/white checkers. Maybe that's were the idea came from.

I think its just a pattern dude. You're gonna get answers all over the place on this one, if anyone has the balls to answer or if they know the meaning if there is one. But I think it's just a pattern some ska band had and then everyone thought it was some symbol for ska. Crap like that usually happens a lot.

There is two kinds of ska. One is that's it's jazz with a strong brass section. Then there is rock, usually punk, with a strong brass section. What you are probably seeing is not that the checkered pattern has to do with Ska, it has to do with the band's punk influence.
