Why isn't my picture background printing out with my text?

I've typed a poem for a friend in Word. I put a picture background to it as well. When I print it out (and when I click on view) it's only the text. I know that the printer can print out color, so what am I doing wrong?

You have done nothing wrong. The default setting for the printer is to not print background images.

This will be an option setting.
Click on tools then options. Then select the print tab. Background printing is a checkbox.
