Why did the shooting at Virginia Tech occur?

Because that is what happens when you can't talk with other people and end up talking with yourself. The problems seem deeper because the only answer you can give to yourself is that you don't know the answer , but no one else wants to tell you.
That's what happens when you stop trusting people because you think that everyone is going to hurt you, and finally you come up with the idea that the only way to protect yourself is to attack and destroy the threat.
That's what happens when you have to bear a guilt for being what you are, for being born in this world and being chained to your social group, being put behind the bars of everyday subtle and therefore more painful discrimination, for everyone thought having some fun or staying away from the freak is normal.
That's what happens when you treat people who call for human rights and open mind and more care for the others as mad dogs, and just put the ear plugs (see no evil, hear no evil, therefore it doesn't exist).
And this is not only in the US, only in other countries it is more difficult to get weapon.

Because a criminal wanted to commit a crime and Virginia Tech was a convenient place to find unarmed victims.

Mainly because a mentally and emotionally disturbed person was allowed to purchase guns and ammunition for them.

it occured because of one boy who was pushed to his limits. this was possibly because of extreme bullying or rejection.

i think it was because nobody ever bothered to invite that kid over to hang out or anything. he didnt have any friends. he probly just snapped.
