hey so im new to fish, and i set up my fish tank today (not yet the fish or water) and i dont know how deep the gravel should be

depending on the type of tank you are setting up. If its a planted tank, then the gravel should be thick (1.5"+) for rooted plants to take root. For just regular tanks, less is better. It is true that the more gravel there is, there is more surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow. But it also means that more waste can get trapped at the bottom. The less gravel (or even a bare tank) the more easier it is to clean (with a gravel vac).

Hi, gravel does not have to be very deep at all. You only need enough to cover the bottom of the tank evenly. But make sure you wash gravel before placing in tank, this gets rid of any chemicles they may be left over on the rocks.

1lb. per gallon of water or you can get about 2 - 3 inches or medium - large gravel.

It should be 1 pound per gallon of tank. There is no depth, just one pound per 1 gallons.

Make it about 1" - 1½".

If you don't have live plants about 1" is plenty. If you are planning on live plants go for 2-2.5"

two inches it has to be able to create bacteria, and don't bother it once in place till it cycles, you know till the foggy water goes away.............
