A lot of people say that we did not goto the moon. I question it. If we did, where is the evidence (pictures) from telescopes from earth looking at the moon showing the left over space gear like the Lunar Roving Vehicle, the US Flag and among other things. If we did land on the dark side of the moon, then why hasn't any satellites token pictures of these items left behind for proof that we did infact land on the moon?

When I talk about telescopes I'm talking about the large optical telescopes that look light years from earth....

Thanx for all the replies but still, why isn't there any pictures...That would be hard evidence that we did in fact land on the moon. And the Lunar Retro reflectors are great but that can be said to be by Nasa and Moon dirt could be dirt from anywhere... I can into my back yard and get some sand and say it was moon dirt...

I'm not denying that we did goto the moon. I just see both sides of this question. Only would seem that NASA would have a satellite pictures from the moon or be able to use there massive telescopes that they have to show the US people pictures. Thanx again for all the replies!!

1) Twelve 12 American astronauts have walked on the moon.
Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin
Apollo 12: Pete Conrad & Alan Bean
Apollo 13: << failed to land on the moon >>
Apollo 14: Alan Shepard & Edgar (Ed) Mitchell
Apollo 15: David Scott & James Irwin
Apollo 16: John Young & Charles Duke
Apollo 17: Eugene (Gene) Cernan & Harrison Schmidt
2) Why haven't we been back?
a) American astronauts visited the moon on six occasions.
b) The "moon race" was an extension of the cold war. It was mostly about national prestige. We got there first and achieved our primary objective. There was some good science: surveys, measurements, sample collection. But it was mostly about being there first. Once we achieved our primary objective, there was no political will to go back. There still isn't. Perhaps, if we discover He3 or something else valuable, there will be.
c) I used to travel to Crested Butte, Colorado every year to ski. Because I don't go anymore, does it mean that I never went?
3) What about the Van Allen radiation belts? Wouldn't it have killed the astronauts?
The existence of the Van Allen radiation belts postulated in the 1940s by Nicholas Christofilos. Their existence was confirmed in *1958* by the Explorer I satellite launched by the USA.
The radiation in the Van Allen radiation belts is not particularly strong. You would have to hang out there for a week or so in order to get radiation sickness. And, because the radiation is not particularly strong, a few millimeters of metal is all that is required for protection. "An object satellite shielded by 3 mm of aluminum will receive about 2500 rem (25 Sv) per *year*."
"In practice, Apollo astronauts who travelled to the moon spent very little time in the belts and received a harmless dose. [6]. Nevertheless NASA deliberately timed Apollo launches, and used lunar transfer orbits that only skirted the edge of the belt over the equator to minimise the radiation." When the astronauts returned to Earth, their dosimeters showed that they had received about as much radiation as a couple of medical X-rays.
4) The U.S. government scammed everyone?
In 1972, there was a politically motivated burglary of a hotel room in the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. There were only about six or eight people who knew about it. However, those people, including Richard M. Nixon, the President of the United States, failed to keep that burglary a secret. It exploded into a scandal that drove the President and a number of others from office.
If six or eight people couldn't keep a hotel room burglary a secret, then how could literally thousands of people could have kept their mouths shut about six faked moon landings? Not just one moon landing, but six of them!
5) What about the USSR?
Even if NASA and other government agencies could have faked the six moon landings well enough to fool the general public, they could NOT have fooled the space agency or military intelligence types in the USSR. The Soviets were just dying to beat us. If the landings were faked, the Soviets would have re-engineered their N-1 booster and landed on the moon just to prove what liars Americans are. Why didn't they? Because the landings were real and the Soviets knew it.
6) Why does the flag shake? Where are the stars? Who took the video of Neil Armstrong?
On the subject of stars, take a look at the first link. Sorry, but there *are* stars in that photo. For the rest, visit "badastronomy" and "clavius". They deal well with all of the technical questions.
7) Finally, please tell us what you would accept as definitive evidence that the six moon landings were real. Is there anything?

We did go to moon not just once, but several times: Apollo 11 and other series of flights that followed. The evidence is in the organized documentation of materials by NASA. That we did not go to moon, and it was a faked event, is the biggest conspiracy theory one can make up.
1. You're right, we landed on the other side of the moon that we can't see from the earth.
2. But even if we have left some debris on the moon on our viewable side, with earth-moon distance of 385000 km and the best resolution of optical telescope 0.05 arcsecs, the object should be 93 metres or longer for us to locate it on the moon from earth.
3. A satellite goes around earth in an orbit much smaller than the lunar orbit. If we can't see from earth the other side of the moon, the satellite cannot see it as well. If the satellite makes an orbit larger than the lunar orbit around earth, then it can see the other side of the moon and take pictures. But there is no such satellite.
4. If a lunar landing was faked it could not have been done with out a joint-conspiracy of at least 10 key people. How come it has not leaked out for decades ?
5. Countries like USSR and other competitors were watching us when we did lunar landing. Why don't they claim that we have faked it ?
6. What is the basis of your suspicion that the lunar landing was not really made by Neil Armstrong, from the materials available from NASA ?

Yes we did land on the Moon.
No telescope in existence can see something as small as the lunar vehicles on the Moon. Do not be fooled by the ability of a big telescope to see a galaxy billions of light years away. A vehicle on the Moon may be a billion times closer than a distant galaxy, but it is a billion times a billion times smaller, so it is too small to see with any telescope.
In theory, a telescope about 10 times as large as the Hubble telescope could see the Lunar vehicles, if it were in orbit, but if NASA built such a telescope and took a picture with it and showed it to you, would you accept it as a real picture? Why would you deny the reality of thousands of pictures NASA released from the landings but then accept another one released this year?

If you honestly think a telescope should be able to pick up small items like a flag on another planet you dont know enough about astronomy to question anything.
EDIT:
There is nothing that anyone can say, do or show you to change your mind. Regardless what it is, you will come back with saying it was faked. So there is really no sense in debating this issue with you.
BTW, Even the Hubble telescope is not capable of picking up small items on the moon in detail.
I would keep this kind of talk on the internet, because if you go out in the real world saying such things you might find yourself in a straightjacket and rubber room.

I get so tired of seeing this idiotic notion that we did not go to the moon, which was put out by the Flat Earth Society.
FOR THE HUNDREDTH TIME... since I have answered this question at least that many times... I WAS ON A TRACKING SHIP off the Azores during the first 3 moon landings... I KNOW WHERE THE DISH ANTENNAS WERE AIMED and I know WHERE THE SIGNALS CAME FROM... and they could ONLY HAVE COME FROM THE MOON.... PERIOD...
We did not HAVE communications satellites back then so the signals could NOT have come from a satellite. In addition.. THE RUSSIANS and the BRITISH were monitoring the signals and do you REALLY BELIEVE that the Russians would not have blown the whistle and claimed the whole thing was a fake IF THERE WAS ANY DOUBT on their part?
BELIEVE IT... We DID go to the MOON... and more than once. I was there, I was part of the Communications links and I KNOW what I saw, heard and did.

Each Apollo mission that landed on the moon left behind a corner cube retroreflector array used for worldwide lunar laser ranging ever since,
Google
lunar "corner cube" 618 hits
laser lunar ranging 1300 hits
"Nordtvedt effect" laser 1070 hits
Apollo 11 returned 21 kg of moon rocks, Apollo 12 returned 35 kg of moon rocks, Apollo 15 returned 76.6 kg of moon rocks, Apollo 17 returned110 kg of moon rocks, etc.
The back side of the moon is all jagged escarpments remainging after lava drainage to the front side from gravitational pull. You don't want to land in that.

sure. i'm merely not sure whilst. The conspiracy theorists are tremendously compelling. The land of Hollywood ought to incredibly unquestionably fake the 1st few flights and landings. Why did the flag shimmer in an atmosphere without wind? Why have been there shadows the place there should not be? Why did we see the Lunar Module beginning off and being observed. Why did the digicam carry on with Niel Armstrong onto the moon's floor? Why grow to be the comparable rock pictured on the exterior whilst it grow to be a diverse challenge in a diverse place? Yeah, particular, some could be disregarded by robotic cameras and optical tricks yet they do no longer upload up. greater desirable cameras on a weight-severe challenge? Come on. yet I do think of we went there. No-one is going to spread out a spoof for consequently long. merely which challenge? We had the technologies in theory, we had the technologies to bypass to Mars in theory. the actual crime is that we did no longer earnings on it and have a moon-base by now. some human beings say that's a waste of money. it quite is no longer, the money have been given paid to firms who paid for centers and materials and have been given taxed. what's a waste of money is education hundreds of youthful human beings to bypass out and get killed in a conflict, IMHO.

Well, I'm sure that I didn't go to the Moon. And I'm pretty sure that you didn't either. So I would say that no, we didn't go to the moon.
I am very sure that Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, Ed ("Buzz") Aldrin, Pete Conrad, Dick Gordon, Al Bean, Gene Cernan, Ron Evans, Jack Schmitt, and several others went to the Moon.
And Elvis is alive (but not well) in Las Vagas.

We went to the moon. I don't understand why we would have to take pictures of the "leftovers" in order to prove we were there.
