and that is what we are of course. Always, always in the affairs of other nations. It's been that way since the beginning I imagine We come to the United States; we take over what are now the states which were occupied by the indians, We kill for this land of course. We instill our way of life, while destroying another way of life. Our business of course, is more important than that of the indians.

We stick our noses into the business of Korea and VietNam and now Iraq. We go to Afghanistan to "find Osama" and find NOTHING. But we kill nonetheless.

I often wonder what it would have been like if after 911, the president of this country would have concentrated more on OUR borders, rather than entering and occupying inside the borders of those lands which are not our own; if he had concentrated more on illegals in OUR country, rather than being bogged down with "security" matters in a land, again, not our own.

I love it when I touch a nerve. It is also disheartening that so many have no idea .. about anything.

I understand. The politicians in Washington have their heads so far up their @ss, that they think we are on this world to police it. Why should we kill innocent people and have our servicemen killed over the affairs of another country?

EXCELENT QUESTION!! This goes to the heart of our foreign policy. At one time we were an isolationist nation. After the World Wars we became far more active and yes inerventionist in the affairs of others. 1. One reason is that of percieved threat. During the Cold War we felt threatened , perhaps correctly, by the USSR whom also felt threatened by us. We made a lot of strategic moves many of which (like our imposition of the Shah in Iran and our support of mujahideen in Afghanistan) have come back to haunt us later. 2. Another is economics. I doubt if we would still be involved with the Middle East if their main export was cauliflower. 3. Another reason is a sort of snowball effect. After decades of injecting ourselves into the internal affairs of other nation-states , whether for good or ill, the general view that we have of our role in the world has changed. ( I know not for everybody). Most people alive today can't even REMEMBER a time when we were not going around the world enacting and enforcing various policies. 4. What is perhaps necessary at this point is a fundamental rethinking of our foreign policy and what it should be overall. I am not advocating one policy or another (although I DO have an opinion) but I AM saying that we as a nation need to think about this and discuss it because it not only affects us but the entire world because of our economic and military strength. We must re-evaluate because there are and have been a lot of unintended consequences to our actions an at the very least we need to figure out how to make sure that our decisions of today do not bite us in the future. Hope this answers your question.

The way that the Bush Administration hasn't gotten the United States further in debt to the tune of 8.6 trillion dollars from 5.6 trillion when they came into power, they will help to sink the country financially. With the American Government overspending by a1.5-2 billion per day and twenty months of Bush left there will more than likely be an additional 1 trillion to add to the 8.6 trillion debt that there is already. At 9.6 trillion that will be a personal debt of $32,000 per American Citizen.

If the EURO replaces the American Dollar it will even be worse as the United States currency will take a kicking on the World Markets and it is predicted the EURO will replace the American Dollar. That means the World Policeman will come to an end and the United States will end up in the same predicament maybe as Russia did by the end of the Cold War and that is financially broke.

When the rest of the world along with the UN stops asking us to help other nations we won't have to police the world.

As for Vietnam, the only reason we became involved was because the French were getting thier a s s e s kicked and asked us to help them.

With respect to 9/11 securing our borders wouldn't have changed anything although we should have done that too.

Yes, you are not wrong, and on another matter of history the American pioneers had a wagon and a couple of horses to set out across the wilderness. Now Americans use 2 - 3 hundred horses or more to go to the mall for a bag of pretzels.

Our "policing" of the world has kept our country safer. And whats so wrong about instilling our way of life? Its a good way to live. People like you are too hypocritical. You denounce American efforts to liberate oppressed nations, but praise American efforts to send material aid to poor nations. Why is it ok to spend American money to find a cure for diseases in Africa? Why is it worth American efforts to help countries affected by poverty? Answer: because we have plenty of money and ability to give aid. So why should we pursue terrorists around the world? Because we have the money, manpower, technology, and the desire to prevail.

While we should not be isolationist, that got us into two world wars we do need to be concerned about what other nations are up to. However, that said, we do sometimes get into their affairs rather than watch them and use diplomatic and embargo techinques to get our point across to them. If we mind our business we don't set up future enemies and concentrate on our own defence.

I am an American and I support both the Iraq insurgency and Al Qaeda, Taliban and Hamas, these gang brothers of mine are showing the world, America is a big bully pushover, I pray against the troops daily and rejoice and thank my God for his works in favor of the liitle terrorists against the bigger ones like the USA and God who is the ultimate terrorist of all.
I petition the US government to kill themselves, maybe you should join me, help intimidate them?

To whom much is given, much is expected. Do we police the world? Yes to some degree. Doesn't the world need policing? If not us, then who?

Whenever there is a catastrophe of any kind, people expect the US to be there first. We usually are.

I'm with the the other answerer who offered to help you pack if you aren't comfortable in the US. Let's get your outta here--double time!

Don't forget we also stuck our noses into Europe during two world wars.. and we even KILLED there doing it. I mean.. if you're going to try to defend evil like this ( and Osama, Saddam, Al Qaeda and the Taliban ARE evil ) then why pick and choose which evil the US has fought? Defend them all I say.
