It is often referred to informally as the at symbol, the at sign, or just at. In Israel @ is often referred to as a "strudel;" in Dutch, a "apenstaart;" in German, a "Klammeraffe;" in Italian a "chiocciola;" in French, "arrobase" or "a commercial".

Sometimes it is called a monkey because it looks like a monkey with its tail wrapped around it. It has the official name commercial at in the ANSI/CCITT/Unicode character encoding standards.

I love your sense of humour.

But just in case you really wanna know, when yoused in emails, this '@' actually routes your mail to a particular domain. When you send a mail from your mailbox, your mail server identifies the route to server to which each email has to be delivered.

All the best...

:-)

As salam o alaikum

This is symbol for alphabatical letters 'AT', it is most used on internet and used for email addresses

e.g. naughtyscorpio82@yahoo.co.in

now here @ shows that where the e-mail 'naughtyscorpio82' exists?

This @ shows us that the above e-mail address belongs to Yahoo! server,

This @ addresses the existance of our e-mail account.

Ok well @ means at. In an e-mail address, it would mean SAMPLE at WHATEVERSITE.com. Also it may mean some thing like a "bad word". You shouldn't really put it in sentences and such.

@= at. I have noticed many Indians pronounce it as "at the rate of". I do not know why, when and how how it started but when you say your e-mail address to some one, you should say xyz@ "at" yahoo.com not xyz at the rate of yahoo.com
