The Bush variety of conservative really likes to spout off euphemisms about family values and the like. They decry relativism. Yet, the convenient way in which they cherry pick which moral value to follow given the circumstances means they are just as much relativists as the so called “godless liberal hedonists” they deride.
They are pro-life, except when killing foreign people fills their bank accounts with money. In that case, it is okay to kill. They are for smaller government, except when their people are in power. When their own cohorts control our government, increasing the size of security and military bureaucracies, unnecessarily, are ignored. They profess their belief in rugged individualism and pulling oneself up by one’s boot straps, and yet they don’t allow potential fledgling democracies like Iraq, to fight its own battles, but instead meddle in each of their affairs. Bush neocons believe it is their prerogative to act unilaterally with actions that have global consequences, but when another nation does that – say when North Korea or Iran wants its own nuclear arsenal – they are rouge nations which are part of a diabolical axis of evil.
The reason why Bush and his credulous ilk can be both servile and arrogant is because they are moral relativists.

servile and arrogant are NOT an oxymoron! I am a Conservative and, quite frankly, I wonder the same exact things about the liberal party. It is a 2-way street, for sure!

Time for another English lesson.
disingenuous: "dis-in-'jen-y&-w&s, -yü-&s-
: lacking in candor; also : giving a false appearance of simple frankness :
For instance, your claim that you are "struggling to understand what it must be like to be servile and arrogant." is disingenuous.
