It has been working on this objective for over twenty years and succeeded on a regional level, Do you think it'll become as important as Hong Kong and Singapore on the global level in the future?

Having been to all three of the countries you've mentioned, I can't but wonder what you are talking about. Just look at Hong Kong, world's largest and most polluted harbor. If it says "Made In Hong Kong" it's a lie. It wasn't made in Hong Kong, it was made on the other side of that nasty harbor in a city called Kowloon. People LIVE in Hong Kong and try to work in Kowloon. Imagine over 4 million people crammed onto the side of a mountain, into the space of a small U.S. city. Now imagine that less than .01 % of that 4 million have enough money to own a car. There quite literally is no middle class there. It is essentially the same thing in both Singapore and Dubai (UAE). Will Dubai be significant? As compared to what? The few are exceptionally wealthy there and they bring in boatload after boatload of foreign workers to do their building and bidding. It is absolutely amazing how much has grown out of he barren sands of nothing that WAS Dubai. Yes, all three countries are "significant." Dubai is the crowning jewel of what can be in the middle east.

What I think - Dubai has always been significant on a global level because of it's strategic location. International trade center, port, pathway, regional tourism .. it's smack dab in the middle. It is the leading center of commerce in the Middle East.

What Dubai did that Hong Kong and Singapore didn't - was resist colonial leadership and control. So yes, Dubai has a very bright future. The entire UAE has a bright future.

Yes I think it will.
BUT only if some of the emphasis is taken off of tourism and redirected at creating a more industrious setting.
HK and Singapore are great places to visit, but their prosperity owes much to the level of world trade that takes place there.
Dubai needs to do a bit more than peddle some oil and sell holiday flats!!!

Dubai has mountains of money, and is spending a lot of it right now on huge projects. In terms of global impact, I don't think they have the population (and hence, consumption level) necessary to drive world events. Powerful? Yes. More so than China? No.

p.s. Regarding tourism, and big projects; check out their manufactured ISLANDS!
