Yes, the state will come after the parents for "child support" while child is in custody.
It will be based off your income.

If fact in the state I live in they do in fact go after support for kids in juvenile detention.
Here if a child is placed in detention they are under the guardianship of the state which does in fact make the parents pay.
Check with your state to see if they do as well.

It depends on the laws in your state. Some do allow you to be charged for the time spent in juvenile detention and/or jail.

If the court mandates that they pay, then yes. It is perfectly legal, and many states have statutes that mandate exactly what you are asking about.
