I don't think any college majors are meaningless.

Anyone who thinks that the liberal arts is meaningless is an idiot. I don't understand why someone would think that a discipline that makes you think critically and teaches you to express yourself will orally and verbally is worthless. The value of a broad education is underrated.

I have a BS in Math, have done graduate work in Math and Philosophy, and an MBA from Duke and a PhD in Finance from Berkeley. The education I find most useful is what I learned while studying Philosophy.

1. The one you tried but decided didn't fit your goals
2. The one you didn't connect with mentally and could not understand
3. The one you never even considered
4. The one that had potential but you were not managing your time and doing the work and you got booted out of it.
5. The one the school has discontinued so they are shuffling the final students through

There is no such thing as a meaningless major. Obviously some lead into professional possibilities more directly than others. Some are more focused on analyzing the past rather than looking forward. Neither circumstance makes it a "meaningless" major.

Celebrate diversity. Just because a major seems odd to you doesn't mean that it isn't a perfect choice for someone else. Everyone has an opinion about the value of various majors, but we should be thankful we have wide options and we are not forced into a specific mindset and educational path--whether we like it or not.
