Do you treat all your new shirts before putting them in the machine or do you just throw everything in the machine? You know, the underarm sweat from the shirt? I've noticed that in time, my whites get yellow stains, and for the darker clothes, there's always a wet stain. Sorry if this is disgusting, that's why I need help!

If you're trying to get out stains already there, it is a bit harder. You will have to pre-treat those shirts seperately before throwing them in with the rest. My experience is that if its a set sweat stain, its hard to get out. I used to clean my dad's old shirts and those sweat stains never came out. However, that was years ago and since then they have better products to clean shirts.

The real sure way to best avoid the stains from setting in is to wash the shirt after wearing it...don't let it sit in the hamper for a week before you get around to washing it. This isn't really practical, however, and I don't do it either because who runs their washing machine every day for just 1 or 2 shirts? So my advice is to just at least run the shirt under some water (in the underarm areas) after you've worn it so at least the sweat doesn't dry into the shirt, and then do some pre-treating on those shirts before you do your regular wash. Its ok to throw them all in together. A lot of people seperate out the whites and darks (and the colors) simply because they'll do a bleach-type detergent for the whites...and that will keep them white and probably take out the stains. Just keep in mind that you should only bleach if its the right fabric and if its totally white, no designs, etc. Same with the colors, only you'd not want to use a bleach type detergent. And now they make a detergent just for darks...I think its Woolite. You may want to read up on those and see what works.

Hope that helps!!

when i don't have time to sort things out, i just threow everything in the washing machine and run a cold wash cycle. I find that treating things doesn't make a difference usually, so i only do it if a stain doesn't come out after the first washing.(yeah, i know, waste of water. but i would rather do that than treat everything and waste tons of goop, like my mom does when she washes things.) As for thosse stains in your whites, soaking them in a weak bleach solution before washing ought to clear that up, but make sure you wash ONLY whites or it will cause the colors to fade. Not sure what you mean about a "wet stain," though.

Wear an undershirt. My hubby gets deodorant stains on his clothes, so he started wearing undershirts, which are much less expensive to replace.
