I am looking to make figurines of real people. I was wondering if anyone knew how this could be done. The figurines can be plaster, clay, glass or any other type of medium out there I just need a starting point.

That covers a lot of territory... making a figure or anything in glass is pretty different from casting it in plaster or sculpting it in clay, etc. A lot would also depend on how large you wanted the figure, how lifelike you wanted it, etc.

As one starting point though, there's a lot of info on making both whimsical and realistic figures from polymer clay on these pages at my site:

and for more of the whimsical and/or seasonal ones:

polymer clay, it can be tiny or larger, according to your wishes, you can use wire as a skeleton, also paperclay is great, and you dont even have to bake it, but you do have to paint it after.you can use paperclay over wire or you can use it over paper tubes as a skeleton if you are going for a larger figure. there are tons of books on working with the polymer clays though.

Sure, just use polymer clay like sculpey or Fimo.
