all liens are recorded, i would say the free way to see is go to the courthouse and look up the deed. However the best thing to do if you are buying something is to go ahead and pay for someone to do this, that way you know about liens and any encumbrances

Yes, this is a FREE service for you. Just go to the County Assessors Website for your State, County and area desired and you can view online the lien information, property information, etc. This is a public record to determine who has a lien on a particular piece of real estate and GOOD LUCK!

I did it for free by calling the county courthouse. These things are a matter of public resources, and they can tell you if there is a lien on the property. In fact, they must tell you. They can be very helpful with this; just be sure you are nice to them. Good luck!!

You can complete a search on your own at the court house but it is so easy to miss something that could cost you thousands. Its safer to have someone that knows what to look for go to the court house and complete this for you. One company that does a thorough Judgment and Lien search is Protitleusa. They complete your search within 24-48 business hours. They are insured and have been doing title searches for over 20 years. They're website is www.Protitleusa.com
Hope this helps.

This depends on your area. In my area, the tax assessors do not maintain the liens, the court house does.
Any title company should do this for you, either for free or for a small fee.
