I would love to tell you not to generalise, and that most Americans are just like you and me. But I can't.

You are so right. Just go on the American section of Yahoo Answers. There isn't a braincell between them.

Take gun law. What is not to understand about the more guns in circulation, the more massacres there will be. The American answer? More guns. Spiffing.

I put it down to in-breeding.

Having dealt with lots , and my brother lives in Calf.
It is because they live an insular society

We , in Europe have some, idea of different cultures and languages that are lived separately

They, in the main only see things from within America

Most, can not understand money other than Dollars ; do not understand postal costs or fuel cost other than their own.

America is a huge country, self sufficient and self contained .

On the other hand I deal with Americans that have huge intellect and knowledge but most of all they have unbounding enthusiasm for pursuing any interests .... which certainly put anything in the UK to shame

I think in European countries or other developed countries outside America, this is the prejudiced and sterotypical image. all thanks to the media which loves to show and flaunt Americans eating fastfood at Mcdonalds and talking or complaining loudly. But this is obviously a wrong assumption, because it is based on stereotypes. Just as the english are thought of being too cold or high and mighty drinking tea all the time, this is a media-created idea that is unrepresentative of Americans as a whole. It isnt fair to tar the whole of ordinary America with the same brush just as it is wrong to say all Muslims are extremists. so let us try to dispel such myths and prejudices from this forum, because we live in a society that should be fair and tolerant.

If you think 300 million Americans have the same opinion on anything, particularly politics, then you obviously don't know many Americans.

They may seem that way to you simply because they don't agree with you. Two equally intelligent people can have very different opinions, even when confronted with exactly the same information on the subject. Simply repeating said information from you own PoV is unlikely to change the other's mind, so, if you're a bit judgemental, you may decide he's got something wrong with him.

Or it could just be that you overestimate your own intelligence, and thus feel the need to denigrate that of other people.

The average IQ of a citizen of the USA is 100. That should give you your answer. Mine is 137. I knew what was going to happen in Iraq before it happened. I never voted for George W. Bush because I knew what he would do. Our people are not that smart.

Well aren't you just Mr. Special. I'm ordinary, and I'm not thick. You're probably just an ordinary elitist. And everyone knows that they're the thickest of them all.

You mean the same nation that adores movies like "Dumb and Dumber", Reality TV, and other stupid stuff? I wouldn't have a clue. I personally read alot and pay attention to what is really happening. Many are "too busy" to pay attention. The result is the mess we are in right now. WAKE UP AMERICA!!
Democracy, use it or lose it. We are very close to losing it.

What you are describing is the extraordinary ability of ordinary Americans to be insusceptible to brain-washing.

Thanks for the compliment.
