any differant than all the other little childrens and a £2.5m reward to i know its a realy bad and evil thing for a person to do but why dosnt those other kids get all this media to help find them ? and esp this case when the poor little girl was innocent and it was the mindless & careless parents fault that caused this in the first place ,folk can cover this up all they want with there own thoughts but at the end of the day it was the parents duty to protect and look out for there kids saftey ,i do feel soooo sorry for little maddie and hope shes found safe & well but i also feel mostly for the other parents who have had a child missing also who must think to themselves "why dosnt my child " get this media attention to find them ,if and maddie is found safe and well as i pray to god she is i wonder if later in years will her parents tell her "why"and what "way" she went missing ,poor child will be sooo messed up for sure :(

Yes the parents are suffering immensley as any parent would. The point is that the girl was picked up by the media first because she was 'taken' from her hotel room.
The first thing that springs to mind is where were the parents?
I presumed when I found out they were having dinner that they wer in a self catering unit and by their kitchen whilst the children were sleeping in their beds but then found out actually they had left the kids in the apartment unattended and gone of for dinner.
The media snowballs this because they start of with the story and then criticise the local police who are doing their best and whilst do investigations themselves questioning local people.
This Scottish Hotel Owner who offered a reward only if they go through a British Newspaper --- why? Why didnt they offer the money to the Portuguese Police to help in the search or for them to offer the reward the best way. When I was in Portugal last there werent many people who spoke English.
The question I agree with because of the fact there are many missing people and missing children and they do not recieve the same coverage. If the parents were working class they would have been branded as irresponsible and neglegent by the press and possible hinting at legal proceedings and praising the Portuguese police for all their time and effort helping the family.
Yes the girl should be prayedfor and found and Yes people should be askign questions about the parents responsibility
because at the end of the day if worst comes to the worst the parents are responsible since they should have been caring for her. Until she gets to a certain age she should not be out of sight.
I am sure the parents are blaming themselves but the extra media interest and extra person interests by offering rewards is questionable.

I agree. No matter where you are - there are some kids that get publicity all over and then there are children we don't even hear about. That really sucks. Every child should have the same amount of media attention, a child is a child and one isnt more important than the other, they're all precious and should get everyone possible to see their picture so there are more people out there that can make a positive ID on someone who may have the child.

This is something I've always wondered about. Vicki Woods in the Telegraph today said it's because the ones we see are the ones that strike home universally, and went on to mention some highly publicised child murders. Personally, I'm sorry to say that I think it has more to do with class. You get the same with almost any situation. I can't imagine how awful it is for any parent to have their child go missing, no matter what age they are, but so much worse to think that no-one else really cares.

I honestly don't think that there has been more coverage on Maddy than with any other child abduction. Criticism of the way the Portuguese police handled this case at the start has been an added ingredient, as have had the actions of the parents. By and large though, I don't think it has been over hyped. However it seems to have become an obsession on Answers.

Its a sad state ican see your point and my heart does go out to that little girl but the media is run by a load of pompous idiots and there is not really allot of scandal going on at the moment so this poor family with out them really knowing are the tabloids feeding troff its right that all the other missing members of other peoples families will be thinking what about my son or daughter who vanished and look at beckham why he had to get involved it will not suddenly have a happy ending because he came on the band wagon them two will do anything for a bit of nice guy television also Mrs rednap was also getting on the bandwagon do you think that poor mother wants to be on t.v emotionally broken every day i think not .....but we all hope she is found

That is a good question. Usually when kids go missing it makes headlines in their own communities but not world wide. How often do missing children in North America appear on the front page of European newspapers? Maybe the parents are just really well connected and got some extra help. I certainly don't blame them if they did that.

I think it is out of respect really that they are keeping it in the news.
How many children on holiday in the alrgarve get abducted? Its a shocking case because it is seen as a really safe, family friendly area. It is also shocking that the parents left her on her own (but i wont go into that. dont want to start world war 3 do we?)
It is also headline news because they feel the need to keep the public attention on her.

Well put over 'PSP.' You are absolutely correct PSP we don't. This is why it has made big news. I also agree with Barrie. It is disgraceful how the McCanns have been slaughtered by some ignorance people on Yahoo Answers.
Excuse me 'MCC.' Please get your facts right. James bulger was with his mom in a shopping centre in Bootle, Liverpool. He was holding onto her coat and she could see him. It was the 2 boys who walked him away from her while she turned her back to go back into the butchers and he was missing. James Bulger was tortured on the railway line and tied down onto the tracks. But that is long gone but never forgotten. It is the same about the Cannock Chase murders of all those little children, one of those children who was murdered was one of my best friends child. She was 5 yr old. So it has been going on for years and It is beggars belief how this government has let it continue. Why oh why do they let it keep happening to innocent children. They should prison these paedos for life in solidarity confinement.

Probably because it was in a foreign country and like you said parents have made a mistake.
I am Portuguese and trust me, the police is brilliant but they would NOT do as much for a Portuguese child.
I'm a parent and I know it was irresponsible, but all the attacks in the world won't make for the fact that the parents will have to live with this to end of their life's, whatever the outcome, so don't attack them anymore please, I'm sure they are hurting enough!

yes she is making big news i know there are many many other kids missing and havent got this coverage i really dont know why because every child is imporant. from what i have seen on sky i think they are trying to keep her in the news as the police have winded down their search and they are afraid that she will become forgotten as many children in portugal have done. lets hope they find her safe and well and start to find all the other children too.
