Are you talking about the rootkit that was installed on many of her albums thanks to Sony?

If so, and you are not meaning the new ones which are clean, then YES there CAN be a problem.

Reading the answers here, it seems that most folks are pleasantly oblivious to this problem - and will doubtless think it is a fault CD / DVD drive when it starts playing up when playing OTHER Cd's or files from less conventional sources.

The rootkit is also NOT easy to remove - in short it inserts alittle bit of code on your PC to help stamp out piracy. Of course life isn't that simple and it has also stopped a lot of people playing legitimate files too.

So the short answer is "Yes, it can", be wary of any of the Sony releases except the very recent ones. Quite a few had the rootkit hidden on the CD for the PC to find.

(Harmless in a regualr "dumb" CD player of course)

Mark

ps: damage should not be permement as Microsoft and others have software to REMOVE the sony installed code.

Not if it's a proper CD bought at the store...there are some discs that might not be compatible with your drive, and on rare occasion they might cause damage, but there is nothing on Madonna's CD's specifically that are going to fry your computer if you play it.

Over the long-term (as in years and years), it is going to advance up the dye degradation to CD-R's/ CD+R's/ and so forth (write-able), which could finally reason the disk to alter into unreadable. This takes a super form of time being continuously performed, besides the undeniable fact that. greater possibilities of harm come from too a lot exposure to the solar. CD-ROM's (the form which you purchase with the songs/ video games/ and so forth. already on them) have extra hardship coping with moisture and oxygen (so humidity).

Yes, the CD will gain infinite angular momentum and angular mass, rip iself apart due to centrifugal force, and spray CD shrapnel at you, thus causing brain damage.
