Don't remember why it's called Riverdance but it's actually called Irish step dancing (not tap). But you could try a few DVD's. Olive Hurley has a series available that actually teaches steps. Jean Butler has a dvd but it's not necessarily for absolute beginners nor does it actually teach dances. It's more of a workout. You could definately learn steps and terminology from it but not really a dance. Your best bet is to try to find a school near you. Those are the best options as there's only so much a dvd can teach you and they can't necessarily correct you.

Yup. I was an irish dancer for 14 years, from I was 4 years old. My whole class made our own version of it and used to do shows around northern ireland and at weddings and stuff. Good times. A couple of people I know were in the real riverdance also and got to travel the world. I was offered to audition for it, but by that time I had discovered boy, cigarrettes and alcohol - so I wasn;t so much for spending 6 nights a week dancing! hehehe

The thing about getting Irish Dancing steps is that each school has different ones and they are all copy right protected. Olive Hurley does some stuff with some of her DVD's but really the best thing would be to find a school because you can try and copy her but in the end you might be doing something wrong that could lead to an injury.

Think it's called Riverdance because the River is seen as the source of life or the journey through life
