How old do you have to be to buy a Rated "R" movie in VA? I tried to buy snakes on the plane.

I am thinking most places you have to be at least 17. You will just have to ask at the place you want to purchase it. Most major retailers have a system that flags movies that have age restrictions on them and they have to enter your birthdate into the register to confirm if you're old enough.
A elderly cashier where I work refused a sale to a minor once and he got his mom to purchase it for him at another register and his mother actually walked by and punched our cashier (who refused the sale) in the arm. Very uncool...

here in california at a best buy they wouldnt let my little cousin (13) buy borat, i had to get off the car where i was waiting for him and go inside so he was able to buy it.
