According to the Energy Information Agency, "Gasoline inventories are expected to remain below the lower end of the normal range throughout the summer, which will keep pressure on gasoline prices and likely result in higher margins and retail prices than those seen last summer."
In the longer term, prices in the US are among the lowest in the world. The era of cheap gas is over and in the next 10 years, I expect to see $5 per gallon.

The summer is the driving season so the price of gas will only go up! It is supposed to raise over $4 here in NY because now it is just over $3. So if people would start not buying huge trucks and SUVs and stop speeding places waisting their gas then not as much gas would be sold so the price would drop! They raise the price because they can and for no other reason.

gas will go down then the high demand travel season is over. Prices dropped in mid fall and early spring. The reason the prices are sooo high is BUSH and the fact the saudis pay america to cap our wells so they get more of the profit...proven fact. Gas WILL be above $3 most of the summer till mid fall when the travel season "summer" is over and ppl are back to their regular commutes.

When demand for other more viable fuels extends beyond the level of petroleum use. The price of petroleum is high because of meddling by oil cartels setting production ceilings to ensure that the oil put on the market is not so much that the price will go down significantly.

The day America gets kicked out of Iraq prices will surge for a few months but then there will be huge falls and it will stabilize around the $2 dollar mark.
In the meantime get a sensible sized car, the four wheel fashion is over for good now they will only be losing value from this point.

Just before an election? The answer is probably "Never". The US price is beginning to catch up with the prices most of the world has being paying for decades. Sad, isn't it?

People need to start finding ways to lower their petroleum fuel consumption whether it be public transportation, biking, alternative fuels...whatever. When the oil companies start to notice their profits diminishing, they will need to lower their prices to entice the consumers back to the pump. Hopefully, if this ever happens, consumers will be willing enough to stick with alternatives to petroleum so that we can finally rid ourselves of interest in the Middle East and start to curb damage to the environment and climate change.
STOP DRIVING THE GAS HOGS PEOPLE!
