Jobs are not always what we thing they're going to be. I've worked with several physicians who, having gone through all of the school work and what have you, discovered they REALLY did not like what they were doing. Life is full of options and opportunities. We aren't all given the same and sometimes we have to make our own. But mostly, life is an adventure. What you start out doing, may not be what you en doing. I practiced medicine for 23 years. Now, my wife and I own a dog grooming business. I retired from medicine, went back t school, got a degree in history and didn't get hired. On the side, I build airplanes (WW I fighters). Who would have known? Don't let fear be a deciding factor. Make it interesting, make enough money to live comfortably and mostly, be happy with what it is you are doing.

I have been in your same shoes. My advice, you really don't know until you do that something. Some people land it right right away. Others like me, try different things and in doing so find out what I didn't like and didn't want to do. It has been very hard for me and I still struggle now about what I should do but I am happy at what I do now, finally I love it and it doesn't even feel like work. Myself, I get frozen because I am afraid I'll make the wrong decision so the fear works on me. You're just going to have to take a risk, easier said than done though. Perhaps you have a teacher or a good friend that can help guide you and direct you on a path to take, ask for advice. Remember, that path isn't set in stone.

Try talking to people who have different types of careers and see what interests you the most. Then you can get an internship and try it out for a few months during the summer.

Sit down and write out 2 columns: "Likes" and "Dislikes". Keep writing until you have exhausted your brain. Tear off the "Dislikes" part and begin to number the "Likes" in the order of what you like best being #1. Then think of jobs that fall into the top 5, or the top 10 of your "likes" and go from there.

I don't think we ever know for sure that we are going to be happy. All we can do is minimize the reasons why we wont. Analyse your reasons for not wanting this job and then decide.

Talk to people in that career and ask them what they like best and least.

Play the lotto and hope you win it big.
Or, become a bum and drink and sleep all day.
