I'm not sure whether it is something serious i just noticed it when i was changing the water. The problem might be that i didnt change the water for a long time.. but if this is an infection what do i do? How do i treat it?

It is most likely irritation from poor water quality. I would doubt that it's ammonia poisoning unless this is a pretty new tank, but plenty of other water quality issues can also cause inflamed gills. I would suggest you wait a day or two and do another water change to further reduce the poor water in the tank. If a day or two after that it's still having the same problem, post another question with all of the details from now until then and we can recommend what to do at that point.

It's most likely not an infection, but amonia poisoning. You already did a water change so that's good. You can also try adding Amquel+ which is supposed to neutralize amonia. There's a variety of Amquel products so check the bottle to make sure it treats the amonia. Also add some salt to the tank (aquarium salt) to help her healing. Follow the directions for how much to put in your tank. Good luck!

Well i do not know about goldfish because i have a different kind of fish .
but maybe you could take it back where you got it and ask him/her if it is a infection...or if someone gave it to you maybe you could ask them.......you should not worry and not leave it alone but if it is a infection you probably should do something fast. i used to have a fish but it was not a goldfish this time i got two and someone else in my family got one but they are not a goldfish
