All you people who quote "Stairway to heaven" as your favorite song must not have heard any other Led Zeppelin song. While it IS truly a great song, it is by no means their finest.
Oh yeah, I'm sending my greetings to the guy who mentioned "Baby, I'm gonna leave you". Oh yeah! Now, that song is wicked.
Aaanyway, I think "Kashmir" and "Immigrant song" by the Zeppelin are really remarkable.
And also:
"You know you're right" Nirvana (so powerfull, so meaningfull)
"Child in time" Deep Purple (one word- zen)
"Seven nations army" The White Stripes (brings back cool&catchy guitar riffs)
"Last nite" The Strokes (it caught the sound of rock revival in the 2000's)
"F*ck forever" Babyshambles (it wakes me up avery morning these days)
"White rabbit" Jefferson airplane (watch "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas", it's great when Benicio del Toro, lying waisted in the bathtub in a hotel room, asks Johnny Depp to play this song over and over again or he'll cut himself to death)
"The end" The Doors (in the movie "Apocalypse now" the scene which features THIS song is possibly the best movie momment of all times! It's when Martin Sheen slowly rises from the water to kill Marlon Brando, and it's a scary night and everything is orange. Perfect.)
"When the sun goes down" Arctic monkeys (they grow on you)
"I'll stick around" Foo Fighters (classic Foo)

I could go on forever, but you asked only for one, and I already disobayed. Sorry. I just can't seem to make up my mind. And even these (maybe) aren't my all-time favorites. Still, these are some of the songs I like.
Give them a chance, it's carefully hand-picked.

Oh gosh, that's hard to say. I love ACDC and the song Shook Me All Night Long from their album (remember them?) Black In Black. I love a lot of songs on that album, but that's my favorite. Can I add another song & group? Dead Skin Mask by Slayer. I also like pretty much anything be Linkin Park. Favorite Animes? Saiyuki ( gee what a surprise ) and Peacemaker Kurogane.

Definately Stairway to Heaven. It's an instant legend. Whenever anyone I know thinks rock music, they think Zeppelin and then immediately after they think Stairway. And Jimmy Page is a guitar god, and Robert Plant sounds like his vocal cords were given to him in a velvet case by Jesus himself
