No Im not perfect, however I can PROMISE everyone out there I would never have left my son alone in that situation. You NEVER go off and leave 3 children who arent even school age to fend for themselves for hours on end.

What if one of them had an accident. Had a problem. I suppose the kids could scream over a couple of hundred yards to get their parents attention, but it would be easier if they were in the same room.

Also we are all assuming that some pedo gang has gone in and snatched her (and conveniently left 2 twins behind .... guess they can only snatch one at a time huh?) ...... yet no-one saw a thing. Not from a ground floor flat around 9:30 at night when there would have been people walking about. Anyone consider the possibility that she wasnt taken by a pedo gang at all?

What annoys me most is people shout me down as though their opinions should overall mine. Im sorry, I believe the Mccann's were reckless in the extreme! If you dont like that - tough!

Status is the question here. If an unmarried mother was in this situation, her kids would be taken from her. NOBODY should leave 3 young children unattended for any lenght of time. In all of this, I hope and pray that the child is found unharmed.

In no way should those children have been left at all especially in a strange country. I am beginning to wonder if there is a nasty smell about the whole thing. If 2.5 million isn't going to get results then I don't know what will.

I am also somewhat at odds that the twins were not taken as well I find this very strange although thank god they weren't. Whatever the outcome of this sad case the parents are going to have to live with their reckless and negligent decision for the rest of their lives.

Do you leave small children unattended? NEVER EVER EVER

I thoroughly agree that there are hard lessons to be learned from this, but right now the focus is - quite rightly - on finding the unfortunate kid.

Yes, they were reckless in leaving the kids alone- I wouldn't have done it and I find it alarming that any responsible parent would. HOWEVER, I would hate to be in the parents' position now. If they are completely innocent then imagine how they must be feeling... knowing that they left her and that this happened as a result of their negligence. I can't imagine living with that.

These parents made a mistake and they are indeed paying the highest price for it. They did a stupid thing and are now suffering like hell.

I wouldn't wish this situation on my worst enemy. Ever.

A parents job is to protect thier children & die for them if necessary. The McCanns failed their daughter in the worst possible way. It is never, ever acceptable to leave 3 kids that young alone & go out, even if you are "popping back" every now & then.
If the Mum had worked in Tesco & the Dad was a road sweeper the press would have torn them to pieces but because they are a professional couple it seems it was fine to leave the kids & go out enjoying themselves.
After all this time I fear there can only be one outcome & it is not a good one. We can only hope that they have learnt something from all this & look after the twins with more care.

believe you thoroughly. The help from the media and our government is thoroughly baffling. in case you evaluate one concern on my own, how approximately Darfur? sure it has had some coverage, yet what proportion all and sundry is suffering there? what proportion are harmless infants? The coverage has been minute whilst in comparison with the Mccann's. I say the Mccann's and not Madeleine, by fact the whole media circus centres on them. the mummy and dad somewhat even point out her call, very unusual quite, i'm shocked that not one of the mainstream tabloids have not picked up on that yet. i'm getting indignant whilst i think of of each and every of the infants interior the international with quite crap lives. infant squaddies, infant prostitutes, infants working in sweat shops, infants abducted, their is countless evil interior the international. Why cant the media and the stars care somewhat greater approximately them? Oh sure, we do of direction have comedian relief bi each year, magnificent....

what you are saying about leaving the children alone was my first thought, then i was sad for the parents now the one i am sad for is maddy. what must she be going through but because of the laws we do not know everything thats going on. like in any case everyone has their own thoughts and views and untill there is an answer everyone will continue to speculate. yes they were reckless but right now is not a time for judging it is a time for hoping that this lovely 4 year old comes to no harm and is found safe and well

For me the question is not 'should' the McCanns have left 3 young children alone, asleep and in a strange place but HOW they could. At 3 and 2 these wee things are practically brand new, mothers in particular are incredibly protective probably over protective on occasion. It just isn't natural to feel comfortable away from such young children, I would fret and worry and keep going back to the room - what if they wake up and I'm not there sort of thing. Perhaps at home in England, these two professional have a live-in nanny and are therefore quite use to leaving their children. Sounds like this week in Portugal was the 'token' family holiday.

to be completely honest with you i do agree...
my son is 11months old sometime he can cry get worked up etc but i would never leave him in bed while i poped round the corner to have somthing to eat! having children is a full time job.
me and husband go out for meals but take our son with us! they were on holiday holidays are for children to have fun too!
if you dont want to have them with you why take them?

i do agree it seems planned and she was an order by the looks of the situation. hopefully even though it isnt nice i hope she has gone to a child less couple rather than a pedo group. and yes it is sus that no one saw them round a ground floor flat but if it was planned they would of been watching for a while on the flat.

even though it was wrong of the mccann family to leave their children in their room with a babysitting facitily that comes round ever what 30 mins? this will make other parents who do this think twice about it.... but i never leave my child alone yes its hard if your fed up but get some ear plugs if you cant cope.

right now my feelings are for the mcCann family and for them to get their lovely daughter back in one peice and hopefully she will be unharmed and not scared.

The McCann's WERE reckless in the extreme,I agree with you completely, there is definitely more to this than meets the eye.And another thing Dave ,have you or anyone seen the parents cry or break down even a little bit???because I haven't,can anyone really be that strong in this situation?I know if it had been one of my boys I wouldn't be able to walk around like they have .All my sympathy goes to that poor child ,whatever her parents are going through is nothing compared to what Madeleine has gone through

Everyone i have discussed this week has been up in arms at the fact that the children were left alone - i think some people are starting to feel sorry for the mother - me i am feeling sorry for the child; if anyone need to fell sympathy place it where it belongs - with Maddy. It's part of the culture that you must never blame the parents even if it is blindingly obvious that they were at fault. As for those who are saying that we have all made mistakes - well those mistakes do not involvle leaving young children on their own. If the parents had been from an ethnic minority or trailer trash would anyone be feeling sympathy for them?
