I can tell you what happened to us. We had a truck that got tagged, and were afraid to try and remove it. The truck kept it on there over a year, and it looked terrible (truck is white and the spray paint they used was black). I finally decided I had nothing to lose cause it was ruined anyhow. I used Mr. Clean Magic Erasure and it took every bit of the black paint off and never bothered the finish of our truck paint. It looks brand new again. I think you could try on a small area and see if your car's paint holds up. I hope it does, cause it'll come off so easy and completely. Good luck, it really hurts when ya mess up your car!

I'd try the rubbing compund first; anything that may happen that will require "professional" help, would only cost you the same amount of money you're looking at to remove the paint. If you do it yourownself, you're going to save a lot of money and whoever you hire to do it will only use rubbing compund on it anyway. You won't do anything to the finish (use polishing compound, by the way, after using rubbing compund - it will remove any marks that the rubbing compund may leave. Polishing compound is much finer than rubbing compound.).

Rubbing compound will not eat the paint off of your car. It will scratch because of the grit that is in it though. Use a fine cutting compound if you are worried about the scratches and then go over it with some wax to fill them in.

If your bumper is painted and has no deep scratches, then I would suggest using some clay bar on it. You can pick some of that stuff up at your local auto parts store. It should be in the auto detailing section. Just follow the directions on the box and you should be golden.

I have had paint removal succcess with acetone from the home paint dept. at any department store. It needs to be applied carefully on a rag, don't rub hard, just gently several times to dissolve and pick up the paint smear. Stop when it appears gone to protect your own coat of paint.
