There are 3 parts to the ear:(1)the outer,(2)the middle, and (3)the inner. The answer given by Mr. PaperBottom on this site might be soothing if your problem was in the OUTER ear, however dizziness is a symptom of INNER ear disturbance.Fluid in the MIDDLE ear can cause dizziness in the adjacent INNER ear.In the United States one can get a medicine called meclizine from a doctor.A dose of 25 mg by mouth taken 3 times daily usually relieves the dizziness.Non-prescription drugs in the antihistamine family such as dramamine, benadryl,or dimetapp may be somewhat helpful, but don't work on the inner ear as effectively as meclizine.Scopolamine is another prescription drug which is very effective, and can not only be taken in pill form, but is also available as a patch which can be placed behind the ear.Scopolamine is more expensive and has more side-effects than meclizine-all of these drugs can cause drowsiness.Bottom line:call the doctor who prescribed the antibiotic and TELL HIM YOU'RE DIZZY!!!This is a common problem and I'm sure your doctor will phone in some meclizine for you.
I agree with class act's answer that you are indeed dealing with an inner ear problem, but placing a temporary tube in the ear is aggressive in that it is a surgical procedure attended by risk and expense. Most specialists in ear nose throat would think of tube placement, therefore,as a last resort not a first step, and would perform such surgery after the full pharmaceutical array was exhausted. In fact,I think if antihistamine therapy failed,a physician would prescribe a course of oral corticosteroid(e.g.Medrol dose-pack) before embarking on surgery.
granny__sp did not specify which part of her ear was 'infected'.There is no logical reason that any of her remedies would be effective for an INNER ear problem. However, the acetic acid in vinegar is a very effective antibiotic when 3-4 drops are placed LOCALLY into the ear canal 3 times daily for an OUTER ear infection.I am not aware of any evidence that vinegar taken BY MOUTH would be effective for an ear infection of any kind.
gldjn's answer troubles me.She states 'it's actually a middle ear infection, and that area is the center of balance'.The INNER ear controls balance, not the MIDDLE,and the way the original question was stated does not mention if there was ever any pain in the ear,so we don't know if the underlying problem is a primary middle ear infection or disturbance with secondary involvement of the inner ear,or if the problem is actually a primary inner ear problem.Meniere's disease is a malady of the INNER ear,not the MIDDLE ear,and antibiotics are totally worthless for Meniere's disease, which is an idiopathic condition characterized by the triad of hearing loss, dizziness, and ringing in the ears.Suggesting that antibiotics might clear Meniere's disease 'right up' does a grave disservice to Meniere's disease patients in that it provides false hope to this unfortunate group of patients for whom no effective cure exists.

At least you do know what's causing the dizziness. It's actually a middle-ear infection, and that area is the center of balance. When it gets out of whack from an infection, or from a disorder called Meniere's disease, the major symptom is dizziness and nausea. Antibiotic therapy is usually successful, but if you have only started them, it does take a few days for the medicine to kick in. If you've taken more pills than there are left in the bottle, they should start working. If they are not, I would suggest that you report to your doctor. There are other antibiotics that might be more effective. But if you've only taken them for a day or two, give it a little more time and you should start feeling better. If so, keep on taking them until they're gone, so you won't have a relapse.
Dramamine is usually good for nausea and motion sickness, but there might be something else that works better. See how things go, and if you don't improve in a day or two, call your doctor again. In the meantime, try to limit your activity and get as much rest as you can. Don't get up too fast from a sitting or lying position. Good luck. I hope you begin feeling better soon.

At one point in my life I was getting up to 9 ear infections a month. I started taking 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar a day and this did work and has worked ever since.
3 other home remedies are cotton ball with olive oil over night or mineral oil or alcohol. All 3 work.

See your doctor and have some blood drawn and tested. It could be an ear infection. It could also be a side effect to medication. Are you eating properly? Make sure you are not eating or taking OTC stuff that conflicts with your prescription. If your doctor doesn't know the answer, ask the pharmacist. Hope it's nothing serious. Best of luck..

Make sure that your problem is not an inner ear condition (not just the earache). I've known a few people with this and that is how it affects people. Also, does your doc know that you are still having trouble with it? He may recommend a temporary tube in your ear to drain the fluid if it is a result of the ear infection itself.
Good luck!
