The giants sent joe nathan and fransico liriano, among others to the twins for aj pierzenzki (sp?)
Nathan has turned into a dominat closer, Liriano is lights out when healthy and AJ only stayed a giant one year.
In response to the first responder, the Tigers traded away a young Smoltz for the Veteran Alexader in the middle of the 1987 playoff chase. While the long term effects can be questioned, the short term was a relative success. The Tigers won the AL East ultimatly losing to the the Twins in the ALCS.

Definitely in 1964 when the Cubs traded a young Lou Brock to the Cardinals for an aging Ernie Broglio.
Broglio went on to play 2 more seasons in which he went 7-19.
Lou Brock gets 2800 hits with the Cardinals, steals 888 bases, has 6 all-star appearances, wins 2 world series with the Cards, and now is in the Hall of Fame.
Thanks again, you adorable Cubs.

If you're a BoSox fan, I'd still be a little upset about sending Jeff Bagwell to the Astros in exchange for RP Larry Andersen, who was a free agent nearly 3 months later.

The Expos trading Grady Sizemore and Cliff Lee to the Indians for Bartolo Colon. Sizemore is an MVP candidate Lee is a possible future Cy Young winner. I know Colon won 1. But, he's been hurt to much.
