I hope you don't need permission cos I put one up in my garden without it!!

I think it varies from council to council in the UK. My local council require planning permission to put up a satellite dish!!! Can you believe it?

They also require it for any security lighting that is attached to council property which is why I put the shed up and attached the security light to that!!! Seems like I have broken a few rules!

It really depends on where you live. In my location it is determined by square feet.

1- The shed has to be less than 100 sq ft.
and
2- You can not have more than 35% of your total property covered without a variance

You really should check with your town's building department. However, the people selling sheds in your area might know, especially if they do the installation / set up, because they won't want to be banned by the town.

Most often, in the case of a metal garden shed. there is no cement slab so it can be put up as it is no more than a metal tent. (Not a permanent structure)
Same applies to the wooden ones so long as there is no concrete poured for footings to make it permanent.

It depends on the city you live in and the size of the shed and the foundation. Contact your local city department or county department and ask....they will be glad to answer your questions. Good luck.

If the property is yours, then you need no ones permission. But don't fall out with your neighbour by blocking out all his light.

If you are in a subdivision that has CC&R's, there may be very specific restrictions on what you can do.

Also, your area may require a building permit for anything above a specific square footage.
