Are they BBQ black beans?? or is it some kind of sweet salsa?

Ive never eaten there before and recently some people at work ordered some for a group lunch. They had wings, tortillas (corn & flour) mashed potatoes and gravy, (bbq?) black beans and coleslaw. Seemed like a strange combo of food that is supposed to be some kind of Mexican(?? Cuban?? Latin-fusion??) food.

I know they've been around for a while, but could someone shed some light on their mission, goal, menu?

Im white, from So Cal...I love Mexican food, grew up on it, so this strange flavor of BBQ in the black beans threw me for a loop when I tried to put it in a corn tortilla with some chicken...weird flavors. I like BBQ flavored beans with hot dogs and burgers, not 'mexican' food.

so the beans ARE BBQ black beans. Pollo loco is suposed to be Mexican style food with rice beans and tortillas. Of course to attract ever type of customer not just Latinos, they add things to their menu to appeal to other people like cole slaw, mashed potatoes and things....

If u don't mind, what's ur ethnicity?

I work at El pollo Loco, and yes they are BBQ black beans. Everybody thinks they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I like them, but I can live without them, I don't know why customers go crazy for these things. They recently changed the recipe for the BBQ beans, but they taste the same. I think El Pollo Loco is over rated, the prices are high, and the chicken is small. As for the black beans they have fat in them, and they are high in calories. Any more questions, email me.
