He had one game against the Patriots when he threw for 3 touchdowns. The Patriots were defending super bowl champs that year i think.

1) True: He was picked 3rd round. However, he was a heisman trophy candidate that year before he was benched with an injury.
2) Backups aren't all bad. For instance, Tony Romo was a backup QB who went UNDRAFTED. I don't even know if he'd thrown any passes in the regular season before he started. However, he did a great job with the team.
3) Even though Matt Schaub is slower, David Carr was one of the top QB's in rushing yds. Carr's pretty quick, but Schaub was much better accuracy. The Texans could've won at least 3 more games last year with a more consistent QB. Remember that Carr threw about 3 TD passes for the 2nd half of the season.
4) Matt Schaub displayed all the intangibles needed to become a good NFL QB when he played. The Falcons have very inconsistent WR's, poor linemen, and a decent running game, which has made Vick's and Schaub's stats go down.
5) The Texans' o-line isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Chester Pitts is their best linemen; he's a great guard. Eric Winston (a projected 1st round pick last year) progressed greatly last year, Charles Spencer (won the starting LT job last year as a rookie) will have recovered by training camp, and the RG position will have Fred Weary (who had a great season last year).

Matt Schaub is not that good of a quarterback, but he has shown glimpses of high potential when he's been on the field. Some players just need more NFL playing time to develop more. Most scouts will tell you that more snaps are the best way to develop a QB. And in Houston's defense, plenty of later round QB's have been successful. Hall of Famers Fran Tarkenton, Joe Montana, and Dan Fouts were all 3rd rounders. And moreso, guys that have gone in later rounds and still been successful include Sonny Jurgenson, Norm Van Brocklin, Bob Waterfield, and more. Plus, guys have gone as late as Johnny Unitas in the 9th, Roger Staubach in the 10th, George Blanda in the 12th, or Bart Starr all the way in the 17th round. Also keep in mind that Tom Brady was a 6th round pick, and in a more similar situation, Mark Brunell was a 5th round pick as a backup to Brett Favre, and moved on to Jacksonville and was very successful. So to truly answer your question, it may not be a matter of people thinking he "is so great", but that someday soon, may be great. I personally don't expect it.

He has been behind Mike Vick if your not aware. Vick is just to versitale to sideline. Matt Schaub is a great quarterback, he just has not gotten a chance. And stats are not everything. Why do you think Vick is running all the time? His protection breaks down and he has to take off, he is gifted and athletic enough to do so successfully. But Schaub is a pocket passer, and without protection, he cant possibly put up good stats. A quarterback is only as good as his line. If Peyton Manning had a bad line, and Matt Schaub had a good one, I bet they would have pretty even stats, maybe even in favor of Matt Schaub.

Quarterbacks are "good" based on what ESPN and the rest of the media thinks of them. They thought Eli Manning would be better than Peyton Manning. Chicago Bears DB Danieal Manning may be a better QB than Eli. They thought Tony Romo was a better QB that should be Hall of Famer Drew Bledsoe (yeah i said it!) before HE EVEN COMPLETED AN NFL PASS! We got the overrated Brady Quinn shoved down our throats by Mel Kiper for months only for him to fall to #22. Now, we're getting Matt Schaub shoved down our throats. The Texans have drank the koolaid and think he's better than David Carr. Joe Montana couldnt play quarterback effectively with that line protecting him. And Schaub is a slower version of David Carr (who knew that was humanly possible?) with a weaker arm and less accuracy. Carr is a very accurate passer, but if you're throwing with a blitzing 250 lb linebacker chasing you every play, see how many passes YOU complete. They thought Schaub should start over Vick in Atlanta, yet they had similar career numbers, with Schaub's QB Rating 10 points lower. The bottom line is that he's a solid BACKUP QUARTERBACK, who will make an overpaid, overrated AVERAGE starting quarterback. I hope you have enough insurance Matt Schaub, you're gonna need it!

People think he is great because of how he played against the Patriots. Although that Patriots team had a banged up secondary and the Falcons still lost that game. He had better passing stats than Michael Vick and that was the main reason why people think he is good. He isn't very mobile and will get sacked a lot against the Texans.

I think he is good, but not as good as all the hype.
I mean, plenty of other QBs in the league who are average passers would look great next to Michael Vick, who will never be more than barely above average as a passer.

He wasn't like Mike Vick in Atlanta. He has more composure in the pocket and can throw. Although the Texans line might not help him. Well he's better than Carr

i don't either, i think it has something to do with him being michael vick's backup and getting publicity because he was the name coming up whenever there was talk of pulling vick...but he's never been a very good nfl qb and won't be any better for the texans, considering that they have no offensive line whatsoever
