Ok i guess people who are answering this are not really reading my question. you are just writing your point of view and lame reasons that are pointless arguments. such as
"No one ever should be allowed to preserve/defend their life from a violent attack."
and
"blaming guns for violent crime is like blaming spoons for Rosie O'Donnell being fat. Its not the spoon's fault!"
As i mentioned before, no one has really answered the question

I'll try. First--background checks on legit purchases are NOT always done--if so--not correctly.
Second, there are too many accidental murders---especially with children.
Third--THE UNDERGROUND Supply will unfortunately always be a SICK part of the world we live in....Can we change that???
Fourth, Humans tend to react out of anger----it is easy to say what you or I would do---but if one had access to gun---out of anger or fear or???? WHAT if we slipped and killed a person whom we were only REALLY ANGRY AT!!!!!!
5. Yes, there should be a chip implanted to all REGISTERED GUN owners (as well as SEX OFFENDERS) so they can be located anytime, anywhere!
6. Look at demographics, homicides----they are only on the RISE!!!!!!
7. WAR---needed to a degree---but how many sons were sent home to parents n a body bag?????
8. School shootings----NOT believable to many---BUT real---, how can we change this????? Metal detectors in all schools???? Look how long it takes to go to local courthouse. But some of the schools I teach at have them---they need to add extra time to day---to do it properly!!!
9. HONEST government officials needed. They can cover anything----BUT gun control SHOULD BE handled BY THE RIGHT PERSON--also with a microchip!!!!!
10. Lastly, I think that guns SUCK!!!!! If a person wants to really kill a person---because of advances in DNA they will NEVER get away with it. Guns are very, very scary to me. As are knives---anyone can buy--i.e. Swiss Army Knife...
When YOU get the answers you are looking for please mail me or add me to your contacts!!!!!
Good luck...Are you doing personal research---term paper work or do you REALLY just want to see how we answer????
Bless YOU and YOUR day!!!!! :)

I don't know about ten reasons, but I'll start it off the best I can. 1. No one ever should be allowed to preserve/defend their life from a violent attack. 2. All criminals or those who have criminal tendencies will relinquish their weapons upon request. 3. Study findings from Rosie O'Donnell University demonstrate all 911 calls are responded to in a very timely manner and most thugs stop when you ask them to. 4. The 2nd. Amendment was really just a gag. The framers of the Constitution knew full well that Governments were to be completely entrusted with the individuals' rights and freedoms because of Britains exemplary conduct concerning the colonies. 5. All documented research, contrary to what honest politicians like R. Giuliani and M. Bloomberg assert, proves that guns PREVENT crime and SAVE lives much more than the contrary...and who wants that?

There are not ten reasons . If the media and Hollywood would stop glorifying the disturbed kooks who murder - it would work wonders . To disarm the majority of citizens-who are good - would only put weapons in the hands of the bad guys . Senseless . It was a gun-free zone that the Virginia mass murders took place in - which means - even guards couldn't have been armed . Where is the rationale there ..

Why not regulate whats on Tv the net and the movies that is where these sickos get there Ideas NOT GUNS!!!!! No gun has ever jumped outta its case and shot anyone or loaded itself to kill, comeone, wake up and see what the true problem is here, your just looking for something to blame it is society that is the problem quit taking it out on law abiding citizens and look for a REAL solution take the guns from us go ahead the crooks and killers will still have theirs!!!!

Because the BILL OF RIGHTS says:

THE CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW

If you allow government to regulate guns without amending the Constitution, then they can do the same to Free Speech, Religion, Assembly, redress of Grievance etc. So you would trash our Constitution because you are afraid. You must be a good Republican.

Since the government DOES regulate the sale, possession, or transfer of firearms, the question is moot. As was stated earlier, it's not the guns that jump up and go crazy, it's the person holding the gun. Will more laws stop criminals ?

I'll give you 10 reasons on why the government should NOT regulate gun control.
1) blaming guns for violent crime is like blaming spoons for Rosie O'Donnell being fat. Its not the spoon's fault!
2) although both countries experienced a decrese in murders by guns, crime has RISEN since gun control took effect in the U.K. and especially Australia. Assaults, burglaries, home robberies have all risen dramatically
3) gun control doesn't work because criminals don't obey the law (unlike law abiding citizens who legally possess firearms).
4) In 1914, Turkey imposed gun control on the Armenians, and for the next 3 years, unable to defend themselves, 1 million Armenians were slaughtered
5) In the 1930s, Hitler imposed gun control on all Jews, and by 1945, unable to defend themselves, over 6 million Jews were exterminated
6) Stalin imposed gun control in the 1930s, and over the next 20 years, unable to defend themselves, an estimated 30 million Russians & Ukranians were slaughtered.
7) Pol Pot & the Khmer Rouge imposed gun control in the 1960s, and for the next 20 years, over 1 million citizens, unable to defend themselves, were murdered.
8) Idi Amin instituted gun control in 1971, and for the next 9 years, 300,000 citizens, unable to defend themselves, were killed.
9) Mao came to power in China, instituted gun control, and from 1945-1970, an estimated 3 million Christians (and 17 million non-Christians), unable to defend themselves, were eliminated.
10) When I get a question from someone who wants gun control, I ask them "Who do you want to eliminate?" Giving people the right to bear arms is to PREVENT the government from doing harm to its citizens. Without gun control, we are citizens. With gun control, we are subjects.

Only in America!!! I have read some of the responses on this and was aghast.... Why does America allow anyone and everyone to own a Gun? how many more people must die before America faces upto the fact that unbalanced people who have access to Guns will use them?

2007-05-19 16:52:33 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

People have a right to own "guns"
We should not have the right to own guns
with automatic fire power. I don't need a gun that can fire a round per second. For what? I don't need a weapon that can kill dozens of people in a matter of seconds.
only law enforcement and the military need these types of weapons. And don't shove the 2nd amendment in my face. I don't think our forefathers had these types of weapons in mind when they wrote that amendment.

The VT thing is ONLY an argument if they can GUARANTEE that criminals won't get guns.
They can't do that. All gun control will do is take weapons away from honest people.
