I'm sorry but I have to disagree with most of the people on here. I'm gay and love going to gay bars because I feel I can be myself there. But lately there are so many straight people there that they're not even gay bars anymore.
Everyone keeps saying that gay people are still allowed to go straight bars but the difference is that gay people are still the minority. Apart from those of us who live in places like San fransisco, we still live our day to day lives in the straight world and so we have these gay places to take a break from it all.
The situation is getting especially bad for lesbians in gay places because a lot of straight men have started turning up just to leer at them. Also there are so many straight women going now that they outnumber the lesbians.
I hope I don't sound 'heterophobic', it's just that being gay can get quite isolating at times and we need our community so that we can meet other gay people. It's great that people have become accepting enough to come to gay places but please try and keep it to a minimum so that we can keep gay places gay.

Good for you! As a gay man, I love when I see straight people or an obviously straight couple at a "gay spot." It shows me they aren't threatened, that they are accepting, that progress is being made. Have a great time, enjoy the music and atmosphere.. maybe even brings your friends eventually and show them a fun atmosphere is about so much more than sexual orientation.

I see nothing wrong with this. If you are both comfortable and confident in your sexuality, there is nothing wrong. Like some have said, there is nothing wrong with a gay people going into a straight bar. If you like it there, and you two have a good time I see no problem. There might be a problem if your boyfriend gets up to go the restroom too much. It could either be that he has had too much to drink (in which case you need a taxi), or he is meeting guys in the restroom (in which case he is gay).

Its your friends that have the problem, its good that you can have a great time where you go, there is nothing wrong with going to a gay bar, its just a pity that more hetrosuxuals dont go, then they would come to understand that we are all humans, just different in our sexuality, I love being a part of my gay community. you go girl, teach your friends how to have a great night out!

This is not my view but I know it is the view of many gay people. For decades we have had to hide our sexuality and the only place we can be ourselves is in a gay bar. So some gay people resent hetero's coming into that space as it's the straight people that have given us so much grief. Some hetero's say they prefer the music but really come to gawp. So as long as you really are there for the music, fine.

Nothing is wrong with going, I'm hetero and go to gay bars. They have great shows there. If a gay person comes to a "straight bar" no one thinks anything of it. I think your friends secretly have some unresolved issues with sexuality.

My hubby and I always went to gay bars, the atmosphere was pleasant and we knew everyone. They had great country music and the dance floor was nice.
We never paid attention what are other friends said we did what we liked.. To each his own. Tough what others thought

I dont think that you are doing anything wrong... I have lots of heterosexual friends that enjoy going to the gay bar with me! The people who are upset with you over this are obviously very closed minded and intolerant!
You and your boyfriend live it up even if it is at a gay bar! We are more fun anyways! =)

I think it means you are both secure w/ your sexuality. I know a few couples who go to gay bars. And they say it's for the same reasons. It's especially cool if a guy can go and not be bothered. He is very secure. That takes a real man.
