He bought this brand new 2007 car just two days ago (it's navy blue). I was putting one of those bags with wheels in the trunk and the wheel scratched the bumper. It's not a big scratch just about two centimeters long and 1/2 centimeter wide. I'm really sorry and I don't know what to do.

How deep is it? The entire paint is off and there some kind of black rubber like substance showing through.

This might polish out, especially if the suitcase wheel was plastic. The product I reccomend is Mother's Cleaner Wax (around $5 at WalMart). Use this on a soft cloth and go over the area where the scratch is really well. Let it sit for 15 minutes, and it will dry to a hazy white residue. Then rub off with a clean soft cloth. This might work if the scratch is a very shallow one. This is the only thing you can use, that for sure will not harm the paint. If it doesn't work, definitely tell your dad and offer to pay for it too.

If you get the paint for the car you can fix it. But you have to have patience. Ruff up the area were you see the black with a red scuff pad, and go out on the about a half of an inch with the scuff pad. Take an artists paint brush ant put your paint on, giving it plenty of time to dry. Repeat the process until the area were the paint was removed is good and thick. Then get some clear and automotive paint reducer, put the clear on the the paint you put on. Let the clear dry for about15-20 minutes. Only put 2 coats of clear on. After the last coat sets for 15-20 minutes take the reducer and blend it with the edges of the clear onto the half inch area that was scuffed earlier. Let dry for a day or 2, sand lightly with some 1200 wet & dry sandpaper until smooth & buff.

See if a wet paper towel and a bit of rubbing will take it out. If it's just the wheel, it should come out if you spend 5-10 minutes. Remember, WET paper towel, and only use your fingers to rub, nothing heavier or you'll scratch the paint. Then ask him where's the car wax and wax that spot until you can't see it any more.

EDIT: If the paint actually came off, you'll need to call in one of those "scratch/dent repair" folks. Usually can be done for $100-150 depending how bad it is.

How old are you? If dad bought u a brand new car I think you will get away with a little scratch. Sounds like you're a little bit spoiled. Maybe? Try telling Dad how much you appreciate having a new car and how lucky you feel to have a dad who can and will provide it for you. Ask him how you can fix the problem and promise to be more careful in the future. Good Luck.

If he doesnt know and you havnt told him, do so asap. No matter what kind of parents you have, all problems are much less severe if you fess up instead of doing/saying nothing. Letting him know before he finds it shows you care about what happened. If he allready knows about it, offer to pay for the damage. When it comes to personal property, the mature thing to do is take responsibility for things you break or damage. If hes a reasonable person, just the offer to take care of it might be all he needs to forgive and forget. On the bright side, now that it has its first scratch, the new dents and dings wont be as horrific.

Put a band-aid on it! Seriously though. Just give it time, he'll get over it. Within a week, you probably won't hear another word about it (other than the possible occasional wisecrack, depending on how your dad's sense of humor is). If you do continue to hear about it for more than a couple weeks, than your dad seriously needs to get a life and get over himself. It was an accident. If he can afford a new car, I'm sure he can afford to have that re-painted.

There are 2 options, if the scratch is not cheap u can buff it out and it will look almost perfect, if it is deep, u will need to take it into a auto collision shop and they will fix it very cheap since its only a little spot.

sounds like a bondo job. that's the problem with plastic bumpers. you scratch it once, and even if you paint over it the scratch can't come out without adding material to it, or sanding the rest down to match the low spot.

It will probably buff out. use a soft cloth and a little bit of rubbing compound, work in a circular motion gently. When the scratch is gone, use a clean soft cloth to clean the residue. And tell him to lighten up.
