Yes, he deserved the MVP. People seem to forget he was a league leader in points, rebounds, three-point percentage and field goal percentage, and got relatively few turnovers. And yes, the MVP is a regular season award.
The Mavs lost for two reasons. First, Dirk had a horrible series and deserves a lot of the blame. But second (and this has been pointed out by many commentators), the rest of the Mavericks just aren't that great. When Dirk does poorly, they can't pick up the slack -- this was the case in the regular season and the playoffs. So the Mavs' management deserves plenty of blame, too, for not bringing in players who can step in when Dirk is having an off night.

Everyone wants to blame it on a player that isn't loud and obnoxious. They have extra support in this by the fact that the Warriors played him hard. But, who was doing great in the end of game four, and could have sent it into overtime had not Harris thrown the ball away? Who went crazy at the end of game 5 to force a game 6 in Oakland? DIRK NOWITZKI! Plus, he was the best player during the regular season so, yes, he deserves the MVP.

Remember in 2002 when Tim duncan won the MVP and everyone, including Shaq, said that Jason Kidd should've won it? Ok, fine. He deserved it but he teased us into thinking that he was something special and he is not. I don't remember the last time I saw a 7 foot tall player post up a point guard and get pushed out of the paint only to shoot a weak fadeaway, which barely drew iron. By the way, the point guard was Baron Davis. If Kobe had won the MVP instead would every still be complaining?

Well, the superstars take the credit when they win, the blame when they lose, that's just how it is.
The way the MVP is based, yes he deserved it. But they really really need to redo the way they choose the MVP, and not just because of what happened this season, it's been wrong the way they choose it for the last 10 years.

I agree. But he didn't hate like a MVP and he didn't play yoo well. Yes he derserves it, he had a great season and carried the Mavericks the whole way. The Mavericks were playing great defense. Just how Utah Jazz is playing Golden State, that's how they should of played. They just wasn't ready.

I think he did deserve it for the regular season because he led his team to a 67-15 record, he led in many categories, and he's not a loud and obnoxious player. He doesn't have a bad attitude. Now for those folk who think he didn't deserve it because of his playoff performance, you guys are idiots. MVP is only for the regular season only!

well, Dirk isn't completely to blame. he can only do so much. he needed the guys who helped win 67 games to be there too.
where was Jason Terry? he was TERRIBLE! and apparently they forgot to play defense as well.
it was a team loss. Dirk being the leader should have held court and kept his teammates on pace. he didn't do that....at all.
