i have bats and starlings in my loft.i need to re-do my ceiling,bats are protected,what shall i do,cheers?

Bats are nocturnal creatures and go out to do their thing at night. During the night close off all entrances back into the loft and don't worry about where they go looking for a new home. You may need to run the starlings out during the day and keep an entrance for them also closed until they relocate.

You need to seal up any holes that may allow them access. Putting screening across gaps or holes works as long as it is secured. You also must get the bat goo no out also. Wear a mask. Have someone build some bat houses nearby, bats are good to have about because they eat their weight in insects each time they feed.

Are the bats in there all year?.
Ours used the roofspace as a summer roost only , so we were able to get the work done in early spring.

Not sure what state you live in but try getting help from the S.P.C.A.... they specialize in animals all kinds.. mabey even help to capture the suckers and relocate them...Try to google it for your state and see what comes up.. or call a local veterinarian to get the information. Shouldn't cost you a thing to get the critters out.

We had good luck in our office by installing an incandescent light bulb in the attic and leaving it on 24/7.

I didn't know bats where allowed to break into your house...
You could get an animal charity to relocate them
