I'd like to know what kind of work they do and what environment are they exposed to?

They place a model of desired end object into a two part mold.
Next they provide access and venting ports.
Next, they separate the mold and remove prototype model.
Reattach the mold and pour molten metal into access port.
Allow to cool, separate mold - and whalla -desired product,
ready for finishing process.
