For me, when I've lost someone, because there's nothing people can do but go through the familiar routines of sympathy and support, so you appreciate that, but it's just not what I need, cos it's another thing to have to sort of "pretend" about - there are only certain ways that good friends expect you to be and feel in those circumstances, and so you have to be and pretend to feel them, when really, you just wanna either be on your own or get on with things.

When I lost my mom, because I know they were trying to help and get my through the tough time I was dealing with. None of my friend has experienced this and didn't know what I was feeling, what I was going through, or what to say. I needed this time for me to remember my Mom and get through this on my own, or else I wouldn't have been able to cope if I always had someone there to try and get my mind off it. I still have my bad days, but it was alot easier knowing that I let myself grieve and get on with my life as my Mom would have wanted.

The times that I've spent in the hospital are usually like that because it's always been embarrassing for me to be so helpless.
