One of the greatest resources the USA has is it's university system and the research that they do.
Another is our science based corporations.
A president is chosen who displays an open contempt for science, and tries to muzzle scientists.
Is this a problem?

It is a problem, the Bush administration denied the global warming situation because they might have to do something that would have affected big business and he actually fired top environmental scientists that said global warming was happening. and we should do more research. But when Al Gore was vice president he got scientists that were against the whole global warming idea fired. So it is a problem , but it all depends on your point of view

Yes I think it's a problem. I love learning about new things, especially science, space, etc. They're conducting research and they're not allowed to share any of it with us because our government thinks that the majority of the world can't handle the truth. Like the Mars photos that have been airbrushed so we can't really see what object was on the planet, or the moon bases that have been airbrushed as well. I believe we should be able to see some kind of information as to what the scientists are exploring and finding out. Why is it that our government can tell us what we can and cannot know of about this planet we're all living on? What happens when a cover up they've done goes wrong and we find out the truth?

It is a problem only to the extent that the mental midget in the Oval Office can excersize some control over Federal funding to scientific pursuits.

Scientists and research centers continue to do what they have always done. They are impervious to presidental temper-tantrums - even if the president talks to and gets replies from god.

They, like we, know that in a few months, the idiot will be gone... They will still be there doing what is necessary for humankind. The idiot will return to the spider hole from whence he came and drown himself in gin.

It would be if this kept up very long--but its already being reversed.

But its the logical consequence of the ideology propounded by Bush and the neoconservatives/fundamentalist Christians.

IF this became a pattern, though, within a few years the US would become a seccond-rank nation, thechnologically and economically--and militarily.

The only problem that I see is your unfounded accusations. If you could supply even *ONE* example it would be more helpful to your case.
