I had the starter replaced on my 1991 Toyota Tercel. It cost me $229.00 including $80.00 for labour. I think the starter was rebuilt.

That's a good price for parts and labor.

By the way, almost ALL starters are rebuilt on anything over ten years old.

That's probably a fair price to have a shop change a stater. The only way to get around that one is to maybe start taking an interest in automotive mechanics. If you did the job your self, you could have found the starter you needed for a lot less money and had in installed your self in 30 to 60 minutes if you knew what you were doing. So if you want to save money the only way to go is to start learning. (At least the basics, and you could save some cash)

The price is fair. Don't listen to the "Einsteins" that said it would be cheaper to do it yourself DUH!!!
It's always cheper to do it yourself. But if you are going to pay someone to have it professionally installed, and have a warranty to go with it, you got a good deal.

did you go to a toyota dealer?if so you did.If not then probaably not. This seems fair. Most starters are rebuilt.Dealers are always higher,in fact most times 40 to 60%.

I would have tipped the mechanic $10 (seriously).
