Nothing wrong with Esther, heard far worse. Not that boring either as it has the bonus of being rare. How many other Esther's have you met? Not many I suspect, so your name will be remembered. Always a good thing.

Kat, (Katrina) said it best, Esther.

Evening Star, woman of deep faith, courage, strength, ..

It is a good name, one which has withstood the test of time and always will..

Noted also ~ In Ben Hur (Lew Wallace' novel), Esther is the name of Ben Hur's wife.

And, to name but a few women who share your name...

But one Esther of fame, am sad to say, changed her name in order to conceal her Jewish heritage.. so most people know her by her assumed (or stage) name -- Ethel Merman..

Then there's Queen Esther (Florence, 15thC)

I can go on listing.. and if this Q stays open I may return as more pop up in my memory, for I know there are many...

But now I say to you, as did Kat -- hold your head high, and wear it well. Esther is a good name!

Oh, and to Kat's answer, (which is clearly the best answer here, IMHO).. I'd add only one thing....

Rather than your name beiing unattractive and boring, it makes you really unique. My friend's mom's name is Esther. I'd rather have an original name like that rather having the same name as everybody else. There are three people in my English class that are named Sarah. I like the name Ethel, but everybody else hates it.

it's no big deal
and try not to have problem with it cos you're gonna live with it for all your life(if you don't change it:))
and don't change it cos someone else gave you that name, probably parents. it must have meant something to them.
i hated mine when i was little, i thought it was boring too. but in time i realized that it is good. it's not so common, it is a little bit unique.
try to see the good sides of what you have
by the way Esther is a good name...

Hey Esther, did you say your name is boring?

Your name means The Evening Star (~Isthar~), how can a star be boring?

I think it's cool to be named after "Esther" who appears in the Bible as a woman of deep faith, courage and patriotism, ultimately willing to risk her life for her adoptive father, Mordecai, and the Jewish people. That she was raised up as an instrument in the hand of God to avert the destruction of the Jewish people, and to afford them protection and forward their wealth and peace in their captivity, is manifest from the Scripture account.

If it was my name, I'd tilt my chin a little higher and say..
"Hey, my name is Esther.. and am a sexxi Star!!!".

I like. That is a really cool name. I'm serious. Who cares what people say. But what I'm saying is the truth. You could use your middle name. It is okay. It's a wonderful name. You don't have to change it cause nobody likes it. It is your choice.

I think of England in the 1890's when I hear that name. I like it but wouldn't want it personally. I've always wanted to have the name Faye of Dana. Don't know why.
