If more technology results in less direct physical human interaction, and human needs interaction with each other, then more depression results.

If it stops you exercising and making direct contact - yes.
I chat about quality programmes with colleagues and friends the day after. I enjoy answering questions and being helpful online and having a chuckle at some of the quality answers. E-mails also keep me in contact with school friends and busy peeps that I would have lost contact with otherwise. On the whole, I would say the technology itself does not cause or prevent depression. It is how it is used.

Possible. For some people, yes. For me, it depends on how you use the information you get. Just separate knowing from being emotional. It's true that there are times you're better off with less information because as human beings, we're never satisfied with what we have and we keep wanting for more. More often than not, it's the wanting for more that triggers depression.

Technology is merely a tool and it's how we use it that dictates what affect it will have on us. If we use it to isolate ourselves from human contact or interaction than it could indeed create more depression. If we search for fulfilment in external things rather than from within that we are on a slippery slope that would lead to more depression due to lack of our own fulfilment.

It is technology that gets the ambulance to you to prevent your death. it is technology that eases your suffering in cancer. It is technology that allows for surgery so that you can return to an active life. It is technology that allow you to keep in touch with those you care about. It is technology that allows you to increase your intelligence. It is technology that allows to store food, eat healthily and kill viruses that would other wise kill us. It is technology that brings water and electricity to your home and prevents your from broiling or freezing.
It is technology that has improved the longevity of human life. It is technology that increased the literacy rates of humans around the world. It is technology that allows you to share your point of view.
I wanted to provide a bit of balance to the notion of what technology provides.
Depression is a choice.

heck yea....
the more technology...the more lazier people become...the more distanced they become from nature....if you spent the entire day hiking up the most beautiful mountains and through the forests in the world, you would feel regenerated...instead of watching it on the discovery channel.....
would you feel better going to africa to see the animals in their natural habitat or in zoos with modified everything....?

More expectations more depression.
I see your point too - more technology more commodities more desires more failures more depression.
My point is let us correct at the level of expectations and desires.
