Nothing good happens when you run an engine without oil. The noises you are hearing is your van telling you that you need to take your mechanic to court. See how many complaints have been filed about this guy at the Better Business Bureau, and sue him for a new engine. Call him and express your dissatisfaction and let him know you will be sueing for the cost of replacing the engine and the cost of a rental car. Better yet, have your attorney send him a registered letter outlining your complaint and the actions you will be taking aginst him.

Sounds like your engine has seized. Here are your options:
1) Rebuild the engine
2) Buy a new engine
3) Buy a new vehicle
I know it sounds harsh and expensive, but I'm just being honest. You may try to take the mechanic to court if he drove the van w/o oil in the engine.
