A good friend has recently retired and is trying to decide where to move. He is very sensitive to heat but doesn’t like snow and ice. He is also leery of earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes. He doesn’t necessarily need to be in or near a big city but he is relatively young and wants to be somewhat near cultural activities. The cost of living is not a consideration. I don’t know how to advise him.

Is his only solution residences in two locations – one for summer and one for winter? I would like to hear opinions.

San Diego, no earthquakes, no snow, whether doesn't change it's like always 70-90 degrees. no natural disaters, and if cost of living is not a consideration he will fit in well. I think San diego is one of the most beautiful places. other spots would be Phoenix/tucson or Las Vegas or LA.

For the best all around weather, move to the southwest part of the country; Arizona, New Mexico, W. Texas. There's not too much snow, rain, or very few tornadoes. Absolutely no hurricanes...I promise. As for earthquakes, you take your chance any where you live in this world. However, the fore mentioned areas have very few of them.

If you move out to the west coast, you'll have to wait and see when it drops off into the ocean when the big one hits. Then again, if you buy in Arizona, you'll have beach front property when the big one does happen. ;-)

Santa Fe/Alburquerque, NM

It does snow there, but not like it does in other places. It does get hot there, but it's dry and not as hot as AZ or TX. The area is not really prone to natural disasters and the cultural there is laid back and very interesting!

San Diego is known for its mild year round temperatures. I would suggest a small town in San Diego County. For activities and more about San Diego visit : http://www.sandiego-romantics.com
