Sure, but only use someone that has references and actually check the references. They should also have a good working relationship with a veterinarian in the area and ask them what type of plan they have for emergencies.

Absolutely, if you know and trust the person. I wouldn't dream of taking my little pets to a kennel-- too many potential problems. I'm very lucky and have a friend a few streets away with whom I trade sitting services. We both use the same vet and he knows both of us well; we know each other's animals and their characteristics; we know if somebody's not right, etc. I can't imagine leaving my critters in anyone else's care! Besides, have you ever tried to kennel horses?

NO! Tried one once and the woman that watched my 3 dogs didn't give them their medications and mistreated the youngest one.
I would *highly* recommend having a trusted friend (that both you and the dog know) house sit for you.
If that's not possible, ask your vet if they can recommend a boarding kennel to you that has 'round the clock service available.

yes, after a 1-day trial to make sure everything goes ok. Also they would have to give me recommendations.
Too many kennel horror stories like neglect and drugging!

absolutely not.
a pet sitting service, no matter how much you tell them about your pet, can't treat your pet they way you would.
