I was recently told that being born in the US, I was born into privledge--at least as far as the riches of my country go. (No silver spoon in MY mouth, I've been rather "poor" all my life monetarily....). Ans I was told to "get over it!" So, I got to thinking: instead of demanding the things we NEED to survive as a country, and "forcing" our way of governing ourselves on others, what if we just treated everyone in the world, all countries, regardless of their political bent, the way we would like to be treated? As friends, as fellow-travellers in life--Would it be so bad to "share the wealth"??

My computer was given to me by an old friend, and we have free wireless where I live. But, if you want to call a 60 year old, disabled, hard-working woman a "skank", be my guest! I know my true situation, and it isn't one of great wealth, believe me. But none of that has anything to do with my question at all!

Do any of you folks who are so worried about "who owes us" know that WE owe RED (As in those Communists you still seem to fear so much) China a fortune---and that a lot of it was borrowed to finance this stupid quagmire of a "war" that we got into so the Shrub could tell his father once and for all, "I'm as good as you!"??? (Which he isn't!!)

Lamb of God, You who take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us! Why do we keep dealing with RED China. They are the ones who will annhilate us!! The Muslim religion is one of PEACE--as long as we quit poking them with our Western ways and our Western noses!

There can be no "war on terrorism" as terrorism is what the people who have no armies and no "power" use to fight against that which they hate. There will always be sick people who think that violence is "the way" to prove their point--see Tom McVeigh, the Uni-bomber, etc. etc. for out own home-grown terrorists! See Ireland for "Christian" terrorists. They are everywhere! Only enlightenment will turn us away from violence, and only thru' the Supreme Being can anyone achieve that enlightenment! Grace is what the world needs now--not more war! We have killed enough, and starved enough, and damaged enough!! Let it end!

Sister you are singing my song! Get ready for a bashing from our um...undesirable citizens. What is really sickening is how many people in this country refuse...refuse to see things from other people's points of view. We are too nosy, too involved, and stick with the "the whole world needs us to change everyone to a democracy mentality." How silly of us. Perhaps it is also silly of us to get involved in every little problem that occurs in the world. We should help out to an extent and donate money to an extent...but we always overstep our boundaries. To Kill a Mockingbird needs to be requried reading in every state...

We already "share the wealth" to the point of excess. It makes us the biggest dipsh1ts on the planet. We give money in the form of "loans" that are never repaid. Then, 15 years from now, we "forgive" the loans. That's no way to run a business. And make no mistake, running a country is, essentially running a huge corporation.

Here's an idea. Stop sending ANY money to anyone outside of this country. Once everyone in America who is willing to work for a living is in some sort of substantial shelter and is able to buy his own food, then, maybe, we consider doling some out to our allies when they need it. It has to be a loan though, with collateral (land, minerals, equipment, etc.) that we can take if the loan is ever in default.

BTW, Kuwait and Iraq owe us a fortune. If they can't pay in cash, how 'bout some of that oil the Liberals keep saying we went to war for? Hmmm?

I know this is not Robin Williams speech.
I still like it maybe this is the way to go:
Subject: Fw: Robin Williams on Making Sense!

I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of one plan for peace. " Books, not Bombs" won't work. The head mullahs won't let anyone read them. If they do, they poke their eyes out.

Here's the plan:

1) The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini and the rest of them 'good old boys'. We will never "interfere" again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No more sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself, don't hide here. Asylum would not ever be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers.

5) No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort to become self sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else.

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere". They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides' most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if any anyway.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an island some place. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, it would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

9b) Use the buildings as replacement for the twin towers.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer.

Now, ain't that a winner of a plan.

"The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying'Give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses.' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'You want a piece of me?'" - Robin Williams.

Before this goes any further I believe we should define exactly what America is.

This country was not a rich prize, it was a vast land with rough edges and crude centers. What America became and is now was the result of many free-thinking responsible people digging in, tearing out their souls and spilling their blood to make a place to live that has become the ideal of the world.

America was MADE, repeat, America was MADE. America was MADE great by the American People who freely worked to make it great. And America stands tall because the American people will fight anyone who tries to tear us down.

Every nation in the world can be another "America"; all they need do is to think free and act free and become free, and in so doing all of the excellent qualities that already exist in the human being will come out and make them a great Country.

Now that that has been said, where do we go from here?

We tried that; it ended when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941. That was when we decided that ignoring the rest of the world could bite us in the ***.

We've tried to help other countries less fortunate than us with food, money, medical supplies and so forth. All that has done is earn us the emnity of pretty much every country on the face of the earth.

When you are the biggest, richest, and strongest guy on the block, everybody envies or fears you and wants to take you down a notch. Being nice to everyone won't make that go away.

sorry lady, rampant corporate greed and peaceful co-existence doesn't go hand in hand.
If it did, there would be no such thing as corporate espionage and sabotage.
the only thing that has allowed Americans "a life of priveledge" as some call it, is our accountability of community leaders who are forced to spend tax dollars on society advances like: sewage, water purification, and others that were allowed to be built and not destroyed as a result of bad decisions by groups who holds all the power, and have minor disputes with their nieghbors, choosing agression over diplomacy, as we see in other nations that sqaunder their wealth for weapons of war.

As presumptious as it sounds, we usually do exactly that. Yet, we get blamed for that as well.
We are privledged, and are quite rich as a nation. Our poor complain when they don't have a DVD player and stereo, or if their car breaks down. Those who live on the street do so by choice, as agencies of all sorts try to get them to come in, but they refuse as they don't want the rules.

The same is true of those we help. They want the money, they don't want the responsibility.

It would be the height of irresponsibility to pass out our help to those who have not earned it, to reward those who abuse their citizens. We give more money to other nations and charitable causes than ANY two nations combined, yet its never enough because there is always some country complaining that they can't get what they want (as if we OWE them) without showing they are responsible enough to handle it.

What kind of parent, brother, sister, whatever would we be if we just gave it to them? What would we be teaching them? Why would anyone think that we owe them that?

There would be great harm in changing our policies at present. It would reward nations like Iraq that attacks our allies (Kuwait), attempts to take what is not theirs, kills it's citizens in large groups deliberately, attempts to assassinate our President (the first President Bush), and who plays money rewards to those who kill civilians (and themselves) in another of our allys' countries (Israel).

If we wanted to force our way through the world, we have the power to do it far more effectively than our present policies. We show great restraint. It takes the events I listed above to get us to finally invade, combined with a decade of begging the U.N. to take action while they promise to do so, repeatedly, without doing anything.

No, I'd say the U.S. is doing just fine.

I have to pray to the God of my understanding, that some of the attitudes I am seeing on this forum, do not accurately reflect the attitudes of the majority of the people in this country.....because if they do, then humanity as a whole is doomed! And, I mean that as a literal fact! *sm*

Sounds good in theory, but to have wealth to share, someone has to be earning it. Those that are earning it just might resent having their hard earned money taken away from them and just given to someone half a world away.

Then there are those that want MORE of the wealth than what is voluntarily being shared. What do we as a passive, benevolent country do to those who want to take that wealth away from us?

You see, unfortunately, being the flawed creatures that we all are, there will always be those who want to be more than just friends...fellow-travelers...in life.

No we should not be forcing ourselves on other countries however you blur the line between imperialism and a sense of common decency, as stated many times before I think that we should intervene when when any "country" does not provide their own citizens with basic human rights...so many examples of this in Iraq, rigging a girls school with explosives, our troops God bless them found the detonation wire across the street and disarmed the explosives, a fatwa issued in Iraq allowing one to hunt down and kill homosexuals, executing a group of tennis players because Muslim radicals do not allow shorts, like I said so many examples, do your spiritual morals allow you to ignore the plight of others? many of us that have served do so to help the oppressed and I can assure you there are many reasons that are virtuous in regards to those of us that support intervention in other nations.I ask you this...do you think the leader for life of Iran the grand ayatollah sistani should be allowed to do as he pleases.....and use nuclear arms to achieve hegemony? do you realize what a dangerous situation we have in the middle east? it would be so irresponsible to ignore the threat, let me point out that nuclear proliferation is the most important issue here and our presence is vital in the region God willing someday no one will have nukes, how can you be so callous in regards to the plight of the opressed, we are a wealthy nation capable and morally obligated to promote human rights, no one is asking you to personally help, you make no sense..as a nation we are capable of helping and as a constituent you should show your support...keep in mind most of what we do in the middle east is good, some greed involved and the greedy ones are both dems and republicans. The decline of civilization is at risk, do you honestly want the sick ways of radical islam, communist china (many human rights abuses including imprisoning catholic clergy, mass infanticide) to spread and corrupt? is this what you would allow by being a pacifist and isolationist? are you apathetic? you are naive to think the struggle against muslim radicals will end, the dems will have us pull out and mark my word this war on radical islam will continue for hundreds of years whether libs like it or not, you should respect the office of president, as much as I despised clinton I held my toungue when he was in office, "shrub" indeed...how childish of you to insult our elected president, is this how you vent? get over it he has been our president for nearly two terms now, you probably would have not supported Lincoln neither he did what was right, you practice partisan politics, america unite! support our war on terrorism.78% yea right..you and your cnn polls are B.S. may I remind you those are the same polls that predicted our president would not win the last election, may I remind you how unpopular clinton was his last two years and at no time did i disrespect the office or him because it shows a lack of class. you want to be subjugated by our enemies? you have no clue....I have served and know the threat. oh yeah all muslims are peaceful! you are SO NAIVE and uninformed, the iranian government is not peaceful.
