Its bad enough the the world we live in is polluted, but now they are saying the universe is full of debri, parts from rocket launches. Not only do we have to worry about climate change but we have to worry about objects falling from the sky

"Quote: There's huge amounts of material that have been left by the various space programs of the world,"

For people who pay billions of dollars to go into outer space, stations like nasa say its to expensive to clean up.

Irrelevant....there's so much debris in space naturally, that whatever we send up there in the form of rockets, satellites, etc. is negligible. Besides...we could always direct our own debris into the sun...that would just incinerate it all.

The problem with space junk isn't so much that it will come down and hit us. We have a rather thick atmosphere that would destroy any small object coming in that fast, and very few pieces of space junk are large enough objects to hit the ground. The danger is mostly that the junk is flying extremely fast (as in, faster than a rifle bullet) and poses a danger for spaceships in orbit because it could hit them and destroy components or cause air leaks.

Personally I think the problem is still solvable. What we need to do is to first, build spaceships that don't have to let all that crap out into orbit so it can hit stuff, and then second, get rid of the junk that's already there. For that purpose I would suggest a laser satellite to shoot them into fine dust that would not be harmful, although projectiles might work too if they could ensure that both the projectiles themselves and the debris both disintegrate.

Most of the junk is things like paint flakes or dust or a bolt etc. The bigger stuff is tracked very well and the few things that can penetrate to the ground would kick off an alert.

A nuisance. There are several thousand objects floating around up there, and a computer at North American Air Defense Command tries to keep track of them.

It depends on how big it is. If all the debris was the size of trucks then we got a problem.

Since the universe is so inchompresiably huge it does not matter on the larger scale. But yes the earths orbital spot is polluted!

THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN!
