They can jump out of the tank. He might be under something (flopped a little ways).
The cat fish might have ate him. Is the cat fish larger than the goldfish? Cat fish eat anything that fits in their mouth.
They also scavenge. If the goldfish died he'd nibble on him. I don't think in three hours if hes not very big he could have eaten the whole thing through.
Look for the bones and pieces or him at the bottom of the tank and in any decorations or hiding places. If there's nothing to fish either jumped out or was eaten whole.

Clown Loaches are peacefully, yet a sturdy length Clown with small Neon terta and small Guppies.. Clown might mistake them as feeder fishes. (in my view I even have Angelfishes,Clown Loaches and Neon tertas. i've got been given all of them whilst thay are toddler's, interior the comparable tank over 6 months, and that i had to tug all neon to there very own tank, because of the fact the angelfishes and Loaches determining on on tham for lunch) Sorry for ur lost and need it halps

ive had a bunch of fish ''disappear'' by:
1) gettin sucked up into the filter
2) jumpin out of the tank to their death
3) "hiding" under a rock and getting squished
4)gettin eaten by somethin else
5) the cat did it. but i love cats, so, no biggie.
seriously though, try looking in the tank cleaner thing and under a rock in the tank. also try looking around the outside of the tank for dead fish bodies. and sheck your cats mouth for scales. good luck finding him alive.

Well that's strange because that same thing happened to my bottom feeder fish. We never found him. I am sorry for the loss of your pet trust me I have lost pets and I think you should buy a new one only when you feel like you are ready to handle it.

Your cat or some other person( a friend or neighbor) could be the culprit. It cannot vanish just like that. Is there any possibility of any bird could have taken it?

I strongly suspect the cat. It might not go fishing, but if the fish jumped out-----cat chow.
