There is a group of 10 going to Florida in August. To keep in touch we want to take some of cell phone (5-6).

Now in the UK you can just walk into any mobile phone operators shop, pick up a SIM card pack, take it to the till & hand over around £5. You can even get them free of charge from their websites!

It sounds like in the US this is not the case and nearly all the times you have to have a "pay monthly" contract.

Could anyone give any guidance for the lowest cost solution?

Oh, all are phones are unlocked as they are/were O2 Pay Monthly and they don't lock phones.

just go to a cingular corporate stroe with the unlocked phone and say you need a new number for pay as you go service for your phone the carde and everything is totally free all you have to do is buy minutes hope that helps
